I'm just so depressed and unmotivated. I'm new to this site and just starting my diet but i can't seem to kick myself in the butt and get going. every time i try to i just look in the mirror and get depressed about how much weight i've gained in the past year and then i'm right back where i started, laying in my bed being sad about how out of shape i am. i keep reading everyones stories about how much weight they have lost and its so inspiring. everyone on this site just seems so motivated and i could really use some help. how do you all stay so focused and motivated? any tips...anything would greatly help.

Aww honey, the low points can really be so low. One thing I've learned (as someone with a lot of weight to lose) is that if I focus too much on how I "still look" it really feels like an un-climbable mountain. But then I remember that in a month's time by taking a day-by-day approach I've lost about 16 lbs and the way I'm going to get to my goal is one day at a time. If I make the right choices today I've succeeded!! Then I do it again tomorrow. That's been the last month and that will be the next, well, life time!!
Applaud every little choice you make in the right direction and keep trying day after day. If one day you bottom out and get into a funk, try to remember that you always have a fresh start. You WILL slip up while you're making these changes, you WILL have days that feel like a lost cause, you WILL question whether you'll ever see real changes, but you will also succeed if you have more good days than bad. Lean on all the support here, do your best, and you'll see positive habits beginning to emerge.

Weeeelllll........you didn't gain the weight overnight........sooooooooooooo....you'll have to come to the realization that it won't be a quick thing, BUT-good news here-if you just get up and do something, I mean ANYTHING...othr than laying on your bed- you will feel so much better about yourself. And then do the same thing tomorrow, and the next day, and so on, and sooner, rather than later, you will see and better yet, feel the difference. YOU CAN DO THIS!!!! You wouldn't have joined the site if you had no intentions of doing better for yourself, so you've made the first step toward getting healthy! YOU CAN DO IT!!!:bigsmile:0

i thnk that PedalHound and back2beingme are right on the money.. i just signed up yesterday, and you just have to take a leap and do it for a day.. then do it again the next day, and put a towel over your mirror!
pretty soon you'll be excited to step on that scale, and not because of what the number *is*, but because of how much lower that number is from what it *was*!
so get off your bed, and go do something you enjoy :flowerforyou:0 -
Hi, and welcome!
I felt the same as you before I came here. Every night when I went to bed I'd lay there thinking about how disgusted I was with myself and all the weight I needed to lose. I'd promise myself that the next day I'd start behaving and lose the weight. BUT, then I wouldn't do anything, and didn't have any control over my eating, so I'd go to bed the next night feeling disgusted all over again. And then I was told about this site, and it's been "down" hill ever since! I guess you just need to really get into this site, and then you'll get as addicted and motivated as the rest of us are! Once you see your totals from your food log, and start making better food choices, and exercising to get yourself MORE numbers, it'll happen! You WILL lose, and you WILL start feeling soooooooooo much better about yourself!0 -
Honestly, just jump in. Start tonight. Plan everything you will eat tomorrow. Go through your fridge, make sure you have the ingredients you'll need. Plan out your day. Tomorrow, walk anywhere you need to go. Go for a swim, or a bike ride, or rollerblading. Walk the dog. Don;t think of this as a diet. If you want ice cream, you can have it, just fit it in. Be honest with yourself about everything you eat. If you cheat on something, thats ok, but be honest and log it, then make up for it with excercise. You can do this! If I can do this, anyone can... I'm the laziest person I know :blushing:
PS- you are so beautiful! Try not to be so hard on yourself, you can fix this!0 -
