Clothing Swap?

Ok so I am having a hard time finding clothes that fit. Let me start by saying that I have lost 24 pounds since MFP but 40 pounds since I started. My husband and I are carrying the cost of managing two homes right now (haven't sold our old house yet) as well as our 570 dollars A WEEK in daycare expenses. Needless to say I cannot go out and buy new cothes right now.

Anyone interested in a clothing swap. It would hvae to be like a pay it forward kinda thing. I have a TON of size 10/ large clothes that I need to get rid of and I need size 6/8 S/M clothes. I know this probably won't work...but I am DESPERATE. Today I am wearing size 10 pants and a woman and even with my belt as I walk down the hall I have to pull them back up!

UGH!

I'm not the right size to swap with you, but this is a great idea. Actually, my friends and I have been doing this for the past few years. Almost all the clothes in my closet are from friends. Some of my current clothes are from friends who have gained weight due to pregnancy and I'm just being a good steward while I'm in my current size. I'll give them back when I can't wear them any longer. Others have given up they'll ever be this size again and given me their smaller stuff. Still others lost weight before me and couldn't wait to get rid of their fat clothes.

I think it started with me offering to give away the clothes I had that were too big. I would recommend asking around the people you know near you. Tell them the size you're looking for and what size you have to offer. Things may just come out of the woodwork and you won't have to pay shipping.

    Good luck!

Oh and the fun thing is that I've gotten to try out LOTS of different styles that I NEVER would have purchased on my own. When I do finally hit a size that I want to purchase I'm sure to pick a much broader array of clothing than before.

I have 6s and 8s. It was killing me to just send them to goodwill, so I've been hanging onto them.

I have 7 pair of size 6 pants mostly dress pants and 2 pair of dress jeans. All pretty conservative wide leg work type pants. And one size 6, beautiful suit, in olive green. Almost all really good name brands and in great shape.

I also have 2 pair of size 8 jeans. 1 size 8 skirt, 1 pair size 8 slacks and 1 size 8 pair of shorts. These all fit me while I was a size 6.

Everything but the jeans are very conservative "work" type of cloths. And everything is wide leg because my thighs were a problem for me.

I feel like jmbennett should get first pick because this was her thread. I hope that seems fair. But let me know.

I wish I could help but that's no where near my size. My best suggestion would be to check craigslist, ebay, or local thrift stores. You could ask them if they would swap or give you a discount if you drop off a large donation of your current clothes. Also, consignment stores will give you money for your clothes that you could then turn around and use to buy smaller sizes. Sometimes they will give you a discount off your total purchase if you spend the money at their store. Good luck!

We have "swish" in the UK where you go along to the venue with your old clothes and swap with other ladies. Might be worth googling to see if there's anything similar where you are!
  • Paige! Anything you want to send off I would be glad to accept. I would happily mail you a check/money order for your shipping costs.
    Please let me know!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  • What a great idea. I wish you would have posted this a week earlier. I just went through and got rid of my larger sized clothes. I will check when I get home and see if i kept ANY of them.. I would be more than happy to send them to you!
