Do squats really make your butt bigger?

I've been lifting heavy doing squats for a month and a half now. I've always had a small, flat butt... The only thing I noticed so far is a more lifted butt but still small. Is it impossible for me to get a bigger butt? Or am I stuck with a small butt?

What type of results were you expecting in just six weeks?

A more plump and round butt. It just seems more lifted to me.

Your butt is muscle, so the same rules apply to that as any other muscle. eat above you TDEE and work out and it will grow.

    ^This.

The only fast results you get is if you go get butt implants.

From my very limited understanding of lifting, squats will give you a more shapely butt, To increase the size of the butt muscles you would have to be eating at a calorie surplus to get any gains in muscle mass besides newbie gains and water retention.

    Hope that helps somewhat.

Shapely small butts are nice as well

So you are experiencing results but you're still complaining. Most people I know would be ecstatic to start seeing changes in just 6 weeks. Think of the awesome *kitten* you'll have 2 years from now. The bards will sing tales of it all across the realm.

    1. Have patience.
    2. Have appreciation
    3. Have perseverance.

Keep doing those squats (with weights)! Other good exercises: deadlifts, walking lunges (with weights), split squats, etc. I have really noticed a change in my lower body doing all the above exercises, still a work in progress but I'm pretty happy. (Pics are in my profile)

Boldly Lady Jaina rode forth from Camelot.
She was not at all afraid to do a lot of squats...
  • only squats won't help u to get big butt.try 2 add 3-4 more lower body exercises like lunges, sumo squats, bridges, split squats etc and u need keep lots of patience to see the results.GOOD LUCK!

My butt appears bigger, in that it lifted up/got perkier, but is technically smaller. It's a good look.

To add mass you have to be in a surplus. Otherwise you will have a nice shape but will either maintain size or get smaller while in a calorie deficit.

Ummm... Looking at your diary, you're eating at a pretty substantial deficit. How do you expect to build muscle doing that???

Also, you expected results in six weeks? Are you on gear?

Your expectations are really skewed...results from lifting don't come in a matter of weeks and days, it's a long term investment..like months and years. People with those awesome bodies? that's years, not a mere 6 weeks of lifting. 6 weeks of lifting is just 1 mesocycle in my routine...

Also, you're going to firm everything up, but to actually grow that muscle and have a "bigger" butt is going to require more calories...at least maintenance, but a surplus of calories if you really want to get bootylicious.
  • No, a calorie surplus does.
