How to handle life after a binge

So, I am just starting out into these new habits and I find myself slipping up.... big. Two days ago, I consumed almost 3000 calories for no reason at all. Sometimes I feel if I stray from perfection even a little bit, it gives me a free pass to eat bad the rest of the day and that day turns in to two days. I have done this before and sometimes it throws me off track entirely and I drop all of my goals. What is the best way to mentally be prepared for those slip ups?

I do the same, have a binge day, recently up to 4,700 cals... I just 'fast', or try and reduce what I eat over the next few days or increase exercise... I won't necessarily gain back all the calories, but it helps a bit...
Just enjoy the BINGE... And say that that was yesterday... I'll be better for the next few days... Remember its what you eat over a LONG PERIOD, weeks, months etc... not just odd days, just make sure you don't binge nearly every day...0 -
i do this all the time, i have done it so much that i know i will bounce back it, usually lasts 4 days and i start up again, stress and depression from events in life trigger mine, like some people drink alcohol to feel better, i eat to feel better. currently with the rise in interest rates we have had lay offs every month since june,so far i have been skipped over only because i am lucky to be in the wrong dept. I say wrong due to i would rather be fired now than later because the longer i hang in there the less other jobs will be available. another round coming in oct, nov, dec, until the bottom hits. if i quit, no severance and i will never know if i would have made it through the downsizing. so just hanging in limbo... and every 3rd week of the month i am overcome by anxiety and eat. it makes me feel better.0

You need to change your mindset, its not good to have an "all or nothing approach". Think of why you want to do this. Don't deprive yourself, maybe try fitting in a couple of treats every now and then. Also logging the night before helps me to control this sort of thing, maybe give it a go? I find preparation helps to prevent huge calorie days
If you binge just move on. Drink lots of water, go back to your healthy eating and do some exercise! Either eat normally or reduce calories by a little for the next couple of days, rather than fast. There's pretty much nothing you can do about it, so just enjoy it!0 -
Today is a new day!!! When you feel a binge get up and do something. Go for a walk or work out. You could clean, call someone, or even get on the MFP asking for help like you did today. When you keep your mind busy you get over it. You can do it committobethin, we are all here for you. I just started my self, down 6 lbs. Let us know what you do this week . God bless you0

Everyone is different, and it may unfortunate take a few binges before you figure out what works for you.
However, what I found to be most effective for myself is allowing myself one decadent treat ice been craving a day, but saving that for your last meal (tonight it happens to be the new Pralines & Cream Mvflurry). I tell myself if I stay good and on track all day, I get it. If not, I don't. I found I need to motivate myself through rewards and punishment, or else I'll just binge on anything and everything.
I wish the best of luck to you!0 -
I have this problem although I have finally got it to just once a week or so and my binge usually ends up being a day of 2000 calories instead of what it use to be. I have a couple of strategies I have started.
1. I drink TONS of water. If my stomach is full then there is not much room for bad eating.
2. I work out really hard. That gives me about 900 extra calories to play with on bad days.
3. I have LOTS of healthy versions of my craving foods around. I eat a healthy meal when I am hungry and then, if I am still craving something sweet, I try a healthy version of it. Usually, these days, that does it for me.
4. I took my measurements. That way, if my hard work is not reflecting on the scale, I can see the changes that my hard workouts have made on my body.
5. I drink NanoLean twice a day. It is made up of vitamins, minerals and herbs that curve my cravings and help me make it through hard times. You can get it on www.fit4maui.com.
Keep with it. Make a commitment to yourself to exercise at least 5 days a week. Start with taking a walk every day. Get a pedometer (I use a FitBit) and increase your steps every day. Find new activities that you love. I have started hiking, got back to skiing, I ride the stationary bike at the gym while I read and yes, I lift weights. These are all things I thought I couldn't do until I lost weight. I am running my first 5k tomorrow!! You can do this. Feel free to add me as a friend and we can encourage each other through the bad moments.0
