I sold my TV in 1997 before moving to a new state. I just never bothered to pick up a new one.

To the OP, TV shows are much, much better than they were in the 1990's. I get my shows on my computer now. My first clue that TV was much improved was HBO's Deadwood series. There is still a lot of crap out there, but there is some pretty impressive writing for the small screen these days.

Random fact about me: I work as a movie extra several times a year.

I'm graduating in December with my CJ degree and next month I'm flying down to take the Civil Service Exam and agility tests for a police department (2 states away and where I will be moving). I have a FT job that I hate and is completely unrelated to my major, so this is basically my first real opportunity to land a job utilizing my degree

Once the "Cosby Show" went off the air, I saw no reason for TV to continue. Plus, I have exhausted every documentary related to serial killers and television evangelists.

Love this!! Cosby Show was pretty awesome.

Hmm, I homeschool my kids, I try to read at least 12 books a month, and I want more tattoos
  • No TV here either. My life is richer without it.

I'm an English teacher, and I usually announce this as part of the 'getting to know each other' segment with a new class. It never fails to amuse me to observe how utterly horrified most of the class are. Usually, but not always, one bright spark deduces that because I'm an English teacher I must read a lot ... but the majority see it as a disability or even disfigurement!

My interesting (literary) fact of the day? It's Hobbit Day - Bilbo AND Frodo Baggins' birthdays - so I'm listening to an audio version of 'The Lord of the Rings' whilst I'm sitting here planning tomorrow's lessons ...

I haven't had a tv for 10 years. People ask me what I do with my time- well I talk with my family! People ask why my children speak so well, and I always credit it to having no tv to dull their brains, plus the fact they get to listen to me speaking and reading to them constantly. We do watch DVDs on our computer though, which means I get to hand-pick what my children are exposed to. Its fantastic.
Oh, and before anyone slams me for being overprotective etc, my kids are only 2 and 6, not like I'm keeping teenagers hidden from the real world! (Yet, anyway :-P)

I like to learn random and semi-useless to useful skills based on a small interest in them.

A few that I have learned:

    Cooking
    Origami
    Woodworking
    Juggling

    Up next is:

    Lockpicking

Lock picking is fun, tough when you start out though.

Yeah that is what I hear. I want to pick up a book and a half dozen padlocks of differing manufacturers and just have at it until I master it. I'd try safecracking as well, but that could get expensive.

    Simple enough:

i know how to say Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch*. I was taught it by my Welsh Headmaster at school when i was about 9 years old and had to say it in front of the whole school in assembly. Being able to pronounce it has always stayed with me.

    (*actual place in Wales)
