Men: athletic/slim cut shirts

Help me out here. What kind of shirt brands work for you? (EDIT: Please specify the specific fit - most brands have multiple fits) Dress and T-shirt. I'm finding that things branded "slim-fit" aren't always slim enough, and it's a giant pain finding brands that work.

I've always had wide shoulders. Traditional cut shirts produce a big tent on me, even when I was fat. When I lost the weight, it become this utterly ridiculous pool of fabric waving in the breeze, so I had to buy all new shirts. What a pain in the butt - dress shirts are packaged up like Fort Knox and every single one is cut differently around the waist.

Finally after trying about 15-20 brands, here's what I've found:

Best:
Claiborne Slim
Van Heusen Fitted

Better, but too roomy:
DKNY Slim
Kenneth Cole Slim
Hugo Boss Slim

Stupid Circus Tent:
Stafford Fitted

    Have you checked out Express?

I was going to mention this too, Express men's shirts are cut very slim. My bf isn't built the way you are (he's is great shape, but just not narrow enough in the waist area for slim cut anything), and he can't wear stuff from Express, everything is too fitted on him. Might be a good place to check out for you though, based on your descriptions.

Ralph Lauren Polo slim fit is a good one to check out as well.

    I have a FEW Express shirts...but I like

    For Tshirts and polos:

    Lucky Brand
    Affliction
    Coture
    Buckle
    Oakly
    Obey
    J.Crew
    Polo
    Diesel

    For Casual Button ups
    J Crew
    HM
    Express
    Guess
    Banana Republic

But for that athletic fit button ups...where you can wear cuff links
    PINK!
    Hugo Boss "athletic/slim cut"

    btw...this also determines your build

My triceps make some slim shirts too tight for me...and then my shoulders are cut in a way..where I have to go up a size..

    it's weird

Thanks for the tips, now I have something to work with. (For the record, I wear 42/44 jacket and 31/32 pants. No huge guns to worry about. Yet.)

Pink... Wait, you mean Thomas Pink, right? Yeah, these two fall in the "better but still roomy" category.

I wear S/M in AE and L in hollister. I've got good sized arms/shoulders.

Dress shirts I only do Express. No point in doing anything else really.

I was going to say this...My husband has a million Mossimo Ts and all his gym buddies wear them too, they are cut perfect. Also my husband loves his Calvin Klein tees (not the ones in the 3 pks but the singles). They are a super soft almost silky cotton and look heavenly on. As far as dress shirts I would say (like so many others) Express is an excellent place to look.

Brooks Brothers has slim and extra slim. I am of average build and the slim fit me great. They also have extra slim.
There is a new brand that competes with Brooks Brothers called Charles Turwhit(Spelling?).
There slim fit fits me, they also have a "tailored fit", which is like an extra slim.

Charles Tyrwhitt have some nice looking dress shirts. I have broader shoulders and a smaller waist and the slim fit still needs to be tailored. They have a 4 for $200 thing going on right now for their shirts

Arrow "Fitted" you need to play around with sizes. They look pretty good, but probably still need to be tailored. Even the fitted have some of the parachute thing going on for me.

Eddie Bauer polos - Hit or miss. I bought three online and one looked incredible. Nice slim fit and everything popped. The other two seemed like you needed to have a potbelly and no biceps to fit. The sleeve area was super tight, but the torso area was loose.

Structure polos fit nice. The dress shirts are meh, but the polos have a good slim fit

Do they sell Express brand in any B&M stores?

As far as polos and t-shirts, I haven't found anything that fits me better than my Kenneth Cole shirts. And the jeans are incredible too. Love me some KC.

If you find shirts that you really like but the fit is a bit off, just take them to a tailor to get them altered. I try to tell people this all the time about pants.

    Brooks Brothers Made-to-Measure.

An investment, but not too ridiculously priced, but once you try them, you'll be *amazed* at just how well a shirt can fit.
