Horrid eater. "once a day" -_-

So, I am 25. I am 5'4 nearly 5'5 in height but I am 200 pounds after having my son. Before I was pregnant I only ate once a day, one large meal around dinner time and was very active but the pounds never came off. I know this sounds funny but I have never really enjoyed eating that much. When I was pregnant of course I knew I needed to eat more to have a healthy baby so I ate three times a day and snacked when I felt hungry. After my c-section I lost every bit of the weight I put on with him and am now back at my starting weight. I wasn't always heavy, I was 155 and that was a perfect weight for me when I was 19 and through my earlier twenties, I was also a vegetarian. Of course I wasn't eating right when I was and on the advice of a DR I began eating chicken and turkey. I also worked out constantly, seven days a week an hour a day. My worries are now with being a new mom I want to be a good example and eat right and teach my son "when he's eating solids :P" to eat right as well and live a healthy life style.
Right now I am trying the special K diet and running 30 minutes a day on an elliptical.
But it's starting t become easier to fall back into the habit of only eating once a day.
Any advice?

Lots of people eat once a day on purpose. If you naturally eat this way look into intermittent fasting (16:8 or warrior diet?) It doesn't matter when you eat, just the calories.0

Tray planing your meals, make a weekly menu and stick to it! Knowing that there's something available to eat at every meal and that you don't have to improvise will help a lot. It's important that you eat enough even when are not hungry.0

That's great to know! It wasn't a fasting thing or a diet :P I just typically don't enjoying eating and when I did it was more like a rabbit. I suppose I had so many people in my circle telling me it wasn't healthy I worried more so about it.0

I used to do that and I wouldn't lose weight (even thought I was definitely...as in over 100lbs...overweight)...problem I had was I wasn't eating enough. Make sure if you are going to eat only once a day that you are getting enough calories and fat and protein...along with the other nutrients your body needs. If you don't get enough calories especially you will start to see that you won't lose weight or might start gaining weight because you'll go into starvation mode (which is what happened to me) my metabolism just screeched to a halt. But everyone's right, doesn't matter when you eat or if you eat lots of meals or just one...just that you get enough in the day to fuel your body for what its doing (which is usually no less than 1200 calories).
Good luck with everything:) And congrats on your new addition!0 -

I disagree with those who say that eating once a day is okay. If you eat once a day your body is not being properly fueled, especially with exercise. Besides, if you are sticking to your calorie goals, that seems like an awful lot of calories to eat in one sitting.
OP, I challenge you to plan ahead and to eat at least three times a day: breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and stick to it. If you want to be an example of health for your son, now is the time to start.0 -

Hey there,
Perhaps you're eating more than you think? It might be an idea to start tracking your calories. It doesn't matter what time of day or how often or how many times you eat... weight gain is all about calories.
Nutrition is really important too and it's great that you're doing this for your child.0 -
i done this eating once a day thing for the last few years and not only did i not lose weight i actually put it on so i have no clue why that is lol. Anyways since changing this for breakfast, lunch and then dinner ive been losing weight at a good pace so there must be something to do with only eating once a day.0

When I first started MFP, I ate 3 meals a day and never snacked. As I was on 1200, the meals were SO limited considering I am a terribly picky eater and dislike most fruit and veg. I also hate wholegrain ANYTHING. ( Its no wonder why Im here today ! )
Anyway, I decided to go back to my "old" dinners. I now have one very large portion of my favourite meals almost daily. Chicken Korma, Bolognase, Stew and Mash, etc. It means I get to regularly eat what I like and stay under calories. And going from big portions to smaller ones was really depressing me. ( Pathetic? Yup. )
Back before I started this journey, thosebig portions were such a big part of my life, and I missed them for the 2 months I tried to stay away. But because I log, I never go over cals unless its intended. ( twice in 3 months, both meetings with friends )
I typically have tea most of the day, a small portion of whatever's for lunch at work, and don't eat dinner until I get hungry at 9pm-ish. Oh, and then I have a little treat.
Some people may go " WHOAH, that sounds BAD for you. " - Well, its got me this far and once I hit goal I will re-examine my portions as I can't log forever. And I will look into hitting my macros correctly once I reset my goal weight for a possible further 5lbs.0 -
Yeah, I would only eat one large meal a day but when others began worry about me I tried eating a little more and it was more like picking at food, "eating like a rabbit." I typically don't enjoy food and now I am on this Special K diet it has me eating six times a day! For me its a nightmare, every time I turn around my phone alarm is going off telling me its time to eat again LOL. But I do see what some are saying, if I don't eat correctly then my body could go into starvation mode and store fat. It's not the first time I have heard that and that's why I struggle.
I do want to be a good and healthy example for my little boy and eat meals with him as he gets older and even exercise with him, I just want to make sure I learn the correct skills.0 -
That's my main goal is being a healthy mommy so I can teach him healthy habits as well.
Thanks so much for the advice I am looking into all outlets at this point!0
