I did it

I just completed my first 5k race. I was slow, and it was painful...but it was amazing to finish and know that - at my heaviest weight in years (272lb), I'm not as weak or unfit as I had convinced myself I was. It was amazing to know that, despite pneumonia and lack of training as a reult, I could push in and on and just do what I could do. In this case it was a combination walk/jog (about 50/50). My gun time was 48:03 and my chip time was 48:33 with a pace of 9.43m/km.
I'll be honest. I'm not happy with my time. I wish it had been better...but for my time to be better I would have had to put the work into clean eating and exercise: I would have had to prepare. There is no cure for obesity except hard work: period.
Some encouragement: it feel a damn-sight better than dropping out would have. I nearly did several times this week. But I didn't: I *can* be a quitter...this time I said "no: I'll do what I can do."
I just registered for another 5k at the end of October. I have one month to get some training, clean eating and motivation in before I try again.
I'll do it then too: and a little bit faster.

Congrats! I think finishing a 5K is admirable, no matter what the time. Just know that you will do better next time, and the time after that. .. you've got the willpower and perseverance. It sounds like you're going to put together a fitness/nutrition plan to help complement your spirit. Good luck!0

Great job! I ran my first 5k in August... it was tough but felt so great to finish. I am also at my heaviest weight... about 220lbs. We walked the color run this past Saturday - too crowded to run. But I am signed up to run a 5k next Sunday.
Good for you! You are awesome and will do GREAT in October0 -
Top work but there you go the biggest thing to come out of it is that now you're motivated to better your time, that's what keeps people coming back to running as you can always (in most cases) get better and improve. This time next year you'll be running a half marathon
Keep up the good work, there's plenty of runners (myself included) and running groups on here should you want advice etc etc0 -
Congratulations!
Don't worry about your time, you'll get faster the longer you train. Be proud of yourself for finishing!0 -
Awesome!! Just finishing is a great accomplishment. Sounds like you have a plan to improve before your next race. Hang in there, it'll get easier the more of them you do & the healthier you eat & live.0
