Does anyone have some suggestions how to start? I have lost 47 pounds on cardio but I don't want to be a smaller flab when I get there. There are so many programs I'm confused. I have access to a gym everyday at work but I have no idea how to start.:grumble: :grumble: :grumble: :grumble:

I am moving from a whole body routine to the 5x5 stronglifts starting tomorrow. You can get a workout spread sheet from the stronglift website. It seems almost suspiciously easy and quick, at least initially. I was doing 60 to 80 min lifting routine and this will be scaled back to about 45 to 60 min with only three lifting exercises 3x a week.
Maybe check it out ? I am sure there are people here on MFP who have more experienced input on this.

    First things first.

Before you even touch a weight, familiarise yourself with how to correctly perform each exercise you want to do. This will save you countless miserable hours/weeks/even months of injury.

Definitely look into a beginnger program like Starting Strength, Strong Lifts 5x5, or New Rules of Lifting. But don't just download the exercise sheets and jump in. Watch the videos/read the book, and research good form techniques on each move you'll be doing before you hit the gym. Then go for it!

When I first started lifting many years ago, I found the book Body for Life to be a great resource that demonstrated the technique.

5x5 is also a great program.

You can also search YouTube for videos that show you the proper technique for different lifting exercises.

I strongly recommend dumbbell exercises. I bought a set of Power Blocks a few years back and I love them! Dumbbells also help you make sure to equally work both sides of your body.

Go for it. You definitely won't regret weight training.
