QUESO or cheese dip?

What do you call it?

<here is where I would normally post a delectable image of a tortilla chip with queso dripping off of it, but I'm at work, so use your imagination>

*hint: if your answer is cheese dip, you're wrong*

    Cheese dip.

    Wrong
  • It depends. Queso has some sort of chili or spice in it. Cheese dip is what they put on nachos at the ballgame.

I'm a fan of queso myself. Mmmmmm.... Velveta and Rotel!
  • MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMmmm, QUESO......me want NOW!

They are not interchangeable. Only one answer is correct. It's not cheese dip.

I live in New Mexico...it's queso.

Queso is just spanish for cheese...no chiles required. I get all kinds of stuff con queso...sometimes with chiles, sometimes no.

Queso! Which you can't seem to find where I'm currently living - near Seattle. Use to eat this at every Mexican restaurant I ever went to in Texas!

"If you’re like most Texans, you were probably weaned on the stuff, no doubt ladled from a crockpot abubble with Ro-Tel and Velveeta, that addictive yellow loaf of pasteurized cheese product."

I usually call it "nacho cheese" as "queso" is an actual type of cheese that is NOT the typical "nacho cheese" and "cheese dip" just implies gooey cheese with no spicy goodness.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Queso_blanco

But now that I've read wikipedia, I have remembered that "queso" actually translates to "cheese" so I am lost.

Good grief. That's even worse than just "cheese dip." WTF is wrong with people???

So you do know that Queso just means "cheese" in spanish? It doesn't actually refer to "cheese dip with peppers" like most americans believe.

Just like Salsa just means "sauce" in spanish. You can have all kinds of salsa that isn't pace picante.
