Not a drinker but I got a gift card for a wine website and I was wondering what to look for. Any tips?

If you're not much of a wine drinker go with something sweet....Riesling, Moscato.
Drink before, with or after your meal.
Pair it with something a little spicy.

For even sweeter look for it to say "Late Harvest" that is like a desert wine.

Also my favorite is an Icewine ...some of the best are from Canada and Germany.

    Good luck and cheers!:drinker:

    Yup.

Reds are a bit trickier since they are much more bitter and complex. You will have to try different types to find what you like best.

    Agreed.

Everyone is different. You may end up preferring the crisp whites (fume blanc, sauvignon blanc, chenin blanc), the full-bodied whites (chardonnay grape varieties), the lighter reds (chateauneuf du pape, zinfandel), or the leggy reds (cabernets, barolos). But for now, start with something sweeter and lighter, like a riesling or even a sparkling wine.

Wine is a very complicated beverage, and your tastes will likely change the longer you drink it.

This is difficult... it's like shopping for perfume online without having any idea whether you'll like it....

Do you atleast know what types of wine you like? I agree with getting something sweet like a Moscato or Riesling so you aren't stuck with something really dry or peppery if that's not your thing.

^^^ THIS + it costs a bit more .. but the "Iced" wines are very too.. They tend to be VERY sweet and a good place to start..

Personally, I look for either a box or a bottle with a funny/interesting name. But I'm more of a beer/liquor drinker.

I think that this is a great opportunity to read up on, and learn about, wines and pairings. It is always good to expand your knowledge base.

Yep it's all about the personal preference, but a lot of retailers do sell sample bottles/half bottles. Maybe ordering a mix of those would be a good idea for you. Enjoy the wine whatever you decide on :drinker:

Honestly I would go to a wine store explain about the GC, tell them you're not a wine drinker and see if they will let you sample some that they feel you might like then you can go from there.

While I tend to agree that first time wine drinkers would more than likely like something a little bit on the sweet side my fear would be that you would end up with something TOO sweet and it will taint your buds. White wines are the best to start out with and IMO you can't go wrong with a nice, oakey chardonnay. Bogle makes a good chard. It's reasonably priced and quite good. Not sweet, not very dry either.
