Yesterday I ran my 5th Army Run here in Ottawa, since running y first 5K in 2009 I've since graduated to half-marathon distances and sprint distance triathlons. To celebrate the 5th anniversary of my first race I ran the 5K again this year and here are the results of the hard work.

Army Run 2009 results: 294/347 in AG, 2185 / 2444 gender, 4324 / 5203 overall (39:08.9)

Army Run 2013 results 34/324 in AG, 888 /4203 gender and 1286 / 12481 overall (27:49.0)

I was hoping to run a PB yesterday but the lead pack took a wrong turn which added abut 250m to the race, even so I was very happy running an average pace of 5:12 per km (approx 8:50 / mile)

I should also add that until a few years ago I hated running (when I started I could barely go around the block without feeling like I was going to die.

It's been a long haul but what I've learned from this is that with the right training, perseverance and attitude we can amaze ourselves!

    AWESOME!
  • Wow well done! That's an amazing leap in times, but you have been dedicated to it as I can see!

I only just managed my Navy fitness test 4 months ago, I was holding on in there with an extra 7 lbs (Not exactly a lot but you feel the difference when you shed the pounds!) on me and not a lot of time to get used to running long distances. I used to be a fast paced sprinter over 100m, but my energy would soon run out. Since my time 4 months ago I have been in the gym regularly and I can now run 8k, no problem!
I was averaging an 8 minute mile, which I'm very pleased with! Considering I couldn't run to the end of my street 3 years ago!

That is awesome!! I'm following a similar path. First 5K was in 2011, and this year I did a half marathon and sprint triathlon. I would love to increase my speed. It's so encouraging to see your progress! Way to go!!

Congrats! That's awesome and you are an inspiration! I actually participated in the Army Run yesterday as well. I walked it last year and walked th 5k again this year. I reached my own huge milestone as to where last year, the 5k was felt like it was going to kill me, this year, after losing almost 35lbs, not only was it a breeze, I also decided to run the last 1km and I am beyond proud. I have decided that I want to take up running and have a goal of running the 5k next year alongside my husband. Good job for what you have accomplished so far!
