Need help with Calories!

Hi everyone!

So here's my problem.. I consistently have a lot of calories left at the end of the day. Like today, I entered my dinner already so my chart is complete for the day and this is the remaining totals:

Calories: 661
Carbs: 170
Fat: 3
Protein: -11
Sodium: 1665
Sugar: 0

Is it ok and still beneficial to weight loss to have this ^^^ left over for the day? If not, how can I balance the macros better? No Protein/Fat/Sugar left so it's hard to find things I can eat to use up some the remaining calories. Thanks for any advice!

What are your total daily calories set at, how much did you exercise? What are your macros set at?

Actually, could you open up your diary?

1200 calories is considered the safe minimum for a woman for good reason. 600 calories a day is not healthy and will cause you more problems in the long run.

Without seeing your diary it's tough to say how to eat more. General advice would be to ignore MFP's protein and fat goals. They're generally set too low and really should be looked at as minimums rather than maximums. Most people who are eating too little have cut their fats back too far. Get rid of no-fat, low-fat diet foods. Incorporate calorie dense foods like cheese, nuts, nut butters, olive oil, full fat dairy, Greek yogurt, avocado, etc.

Unless your doctor has you on a low suger diet, don't bother tracking it. It doesn't matter. Eat more protein, fats, and sugars if you want them.

I am kind of perplexed by your numbers. Why would you not eat any sugar; especially naturally occurring sugar ? And why so little fat ? It would be an excellent idea for you to open your diary, so people could give you more specific advise.

Those figures are what is left for the day, not her total goal.

Going by this, 40/30/30 split, and 1500 calories per day...

you should be eating about 150g of carbohydrates per day, and about 112 grams of protein/50 grams of fat per day.

    Hell no. :p

    1. ignore the macros till you have a handle on the calories. remove sugar tracking from your macros unless you're diabetic.

    2. that 1200 is a minimum for healthy nutrition. Unless you want your body stripping itself for parts (which it will do, consuming things like your heart to keep going) you need to provide those replacement parts from your diet.

Open your diary. I want to see how you're managing to have a day's worth of food for so few calories. Maybe I can steal a few tips.

    :)

Why so restrictive?! Educate yourself on proper nutrition - what is a healthy amount of calories, fat, carbs and protein. Eat more, a lot more!!

Eat more!! I started with a limit of 1500 but I didn't always eat back my workout calories so I was functioning on more like 700 a day. I got light headed, head aches and plateaued out. I slacked off, ate more and felt better. Life threw me a curve ball and I fell off all together for two weeks then decided to give the 1200cal a shot. I lasted one day. So now I am at 1800 a day and I wont eat back all my calories but I will make sure I don't go below 1500-1600. My weight loss slowed down but I feel better and I am less likely to binge.
  • OK!! Sorry I didn't know that my diary was locked.... just opened it up! Thank you everyone for the advice! :)

Your diary looks fine. Honestly at first I wasn't eating at goal either, now I eat pretty much every calorie I can lol.
  • Awesome thank you Francl27! I figure as long as I'm over 1200 I'm good.
