i love making homemade apple sauce! it is SOOOOOO good and never lasts very long no matter how much i make with it i swap OJ & a splash of vanilla for the sugar and it's still delicious!0

I peel, core, and slice them. Sprinkle with some Fruit Fresh and freeze them for later. That way I don't have to make a bunch of stuff before they go bad.0

Baked apples MMMMMM
Wash them, core them - leave a wide hole, pierce the skins.
mix up dried fruit to taste, sugar (more if you like it sweet, less if you like your apples more tart), a little bit of butter, chopped nuts like almonds, a bit of freshly squeezed orange juice (you can add orange zest if you like), and/or a bit of alcohol (brandy maybe) some nice spices - cinnamon, nutmeg, wholespice whatever you like with apples. Pack the mixture into the apples, smear some of it over the skins of the apples, you can drizzle a bit more orange juice if you like, bake the apples, at 150C/300F for about 45 mins till they look like they're collapsing (depends on size of the apples). Serve with yoghurt, or ice cream, or custard.
I just make it up but here's a recipe: http://www.bbc.co.uk/food/recipes/bakedapples_843320 -
And chutney! Also good to use up other veg especially green tomatoes if you have any! Millions of recipes, here's one: http://www.bbc.co.uk/food/recipes/spicedapplechutney_7720
ETA and if you dress the jars up pretty (I use a circle of Christmas paper, some red and green twine and tie a couple of little bells on) there's your Christmas shopping done :happy:0 -

apple sponge is a big hit in our house...stew the apples and make the cake mixture at the same time then pour the mixture onto the hot apple and bake it as if it was a cake - the steam helps it rise and it's very very good!0

Bump! Was just about to post this SAME thing when I saw your post. Looking for some healthy apple recipes as we are planning a trip to the orchard!

Freshly picked apples are glorious! They're great to bake with, but since they're so fresh I really like to eat them raw. Just slice them up and sprinkle with Saigon cinnamon (the saigon cinnamon, as opposed to regular cinnamon, really makes a difference)
I also will cut them into cubes and microwave them until soft, and add them to oatmeal.
Make your own applesauce!0 -
Apple pie, apple crumble, toffee apples, stuffed baked apples, apple bread & butter pudding
Or make a batch of sweet apple sauce/jam (boiled down with cinnamon, sugar and vanilla) and you can store this in your fridge and have in your yoghurt, in your porridge/oatmeal, on pancakes/waffles, on scones, on toast or hot on ice cream.
Sautee slices of apple and have them on pork chops.
Make a Fruity apple, cabbage and fennel coleslaw- great with pork burgers, pork chops, grilled chicken.
Make chutney to eat with cold meats/cheese or to give as Christmas presents as another poster suggested.
Cook and mash into potatoes with a little mustard- lovely with roasted meat.
Sliced raw in salads for some sweet crunch.0
