Friends Help

I have a new friend here who just sent me a PM. She called me out on my food diary. She said "it looks like you eat out a LOT". She went on to tell me the dangers of that, blah blah blah. I was appreciative of her input and explained that I typically eat out for lunch (9 times out of 10 I go to Subway). I have 3 children and don't have time to pack a lunch in the morning. Occasionally I will grab something for breakfast but typically I have a protein shake. I thanked her for her concern.

So I took a peek at HER diary. Turns out my friend is consuming a lot of those processed meals with high sodium. Weight Watchers, Lean Pockets, etc. BLAH! She is over in sodium every single day and eats processed yuckiness.

So, my question is this: Which is better? To eat out in a healthy manner (Subway, Fresco Taco's, Grilled Chicken with no mayo, etc) or to eat those processed meals? I typically try to make healthy choices at any fast food restaurant I can find. I eliminate cheese, mayo, sauces, etc. I load up on veggies. I keep it healthy.

Input?

Well, seems as though your friend was trying to help. With that being said, I agree with you. I think you are doing fine. I would definitely stay away from the boxed meals. I don't much care for them.

It's most important that you eat foods that you enjoy and provide the right micro and macro nutrients and fit your calorie goals. The exact makeup and source of that food will vary depending on your tastes, preferences and lifestyles.

I've been here 650 days. I've never once had an argument with or been "called out" by any one of my friends. You do you and find friends that support you the way you need.

IMO neither is better than the other. Fast food is just as high in sodium as boxed diet dinners. The processing level is not much different either as a whole, though some individual choices are naturally going to be better than others. But the "better" on an individual level could just as easily be the frozen meal.

Personally, I'd rather be eating at Subway, etc than eating frozen dinners :shudder: but bacattoes is right (of course) in that neither really is better.

My diary is open to my friends but they rarely comment because I don't hit that "complete" button at the end of the day so that little message saying "MinnieinMaine completed her diary" doesn't post on the news feed. No post, no comments. Or you can just make your diary private.

P.S. FYI, your friend may see on the news feed that you posted this thread. Just letting you know...

I really like the idea of not "completing" my diary. Thanks.

PS. Thats why I made an anonymous account, so she couldn't see it. I really wanted others' input on my eating. Thanks :)

I never hit that button either. Not because I care if my friends see it or comment. Mine is public and anyone that wants may look or comment. I don't hit it because I don't want people thinking I WANT them to look or comment. I don't care what anyone thinks of my diet. And I don't log every day.
  • I would stay away from boxed meals. Not only are you paying for convinence but frozen meals really? Yuck! I say find a way to make your own meals. If time is an issue I say slow cooker! There is a website I look at for ideas called crockin girls, should google it. You could pre make a lunch the night before for yourself like tuna or a homemade sandwich. But otherwise yea I say there is no big deal going to subway other than the cost of it, much cheaper to make something. In all honesty if I had the money I would eat out for lunch some times too, can never get enough of panda's beef and broccoli!
