Goals

Why is it so important to set goals? Goals give you something to strive for, something to challenge yourself to accomplish. Major and minor works work in conjunction with one another. You can’t lose fifty pounds without first losing five. You can’t run a 5k without running the first few hundred yards without stopping for air. You should set goals for yourself and strive to achieve them, you may make it before or after you set time frame, but the point will be that you made it.
I set a goal about two months ago that I wanted to do a 5k with my fiancé before he left for Afghanistan. I began running the first few days and when he told me he didn’t want to do the run with me I gave it up. Then the other day I was sitting here thinking to myself that I shouldn’t have let his unwillingness stop me from doing a goal I’d set for myself. Two days I got up and told myself that today was the day I was going to run my first full mile without stopping, and I achieved my goal. It took me fifteen minutes and a lot of mental warfare while running, but I made my goal.
Some who are just starting on this weight lose journey may not be able to even run .25miles without stopping, I myself was just like you, but with hard work and perseverance I preceded my set goal by .13 miles. Some may not care to run when they first start, walking for 30 minutes straight may be your goal. Well don’t give up because you will never reach your goals unless you try and in order to meet the larger overall goal you need little ones to help get you there and to help keep you motivated when you accomplish them.
Don’t let someone’s unwillingness to help you or to work out with you stop you. I am for the most part completely alone in this journey of mine. My fiancé is hundreds of miles away and the closest friend to me lives over an hour away. I don’t make excuses for myself anymore instead I work to meet my goals and exceed my own expectations.
