Hello MFP,
After trawling the net i am coming to you guys for assistance, I am struggling to lose weight and need to know what i should be consuming
My Stats:
Height: 5ft 9in
Weight: 116kg
Target Stats:
Weight:90kg
Lose: 2-3kg a week
When i input the details on MFP it says i should be burning 2320 cals a week and eat 1580 cal a day.
However looking online i should be eating in excess of 2000 cals a day (bit confused)
I try to eat 6 times a day (small meals)
My Food Plan:
Breakfast:
Porridge
semi skimmed milk
Glass of water
1 CLA tablet
Lunch:
Various between chicken and veg or tuna & pasta
Glass of water
1 CLA Tablet
Dinner:
Totally depends but mainly meat and veg.
1 CLA tablet and water
I drink between 8-12 glasses of water a day. For my snacks i have a meal replacement shake and fruit.
I am trying to lose weight for a healthy lifestyle and healthy me.
If you can help with any of the above will be great.
Thanks

You've probably chosen the 2 lb week setting because I see that you think you'd like to lose 2 to 3 kgs a week which is totally unrealistic. You should have at least a hundred pounds to lose to use that setting. Change your setting to 1 pound per week and you'll get a decent calorie budget. An adult male shouldn't be eating less than 1800 calories a day, bottom line.
It doesn't matter if you eat one meal a day or 6 meals a day. It won't affect your weight loss. You can't fire up your metabolism by eating a bunch of small meals. Just the same what you eat won't matter either as far as weight loss. Supplements tend to be a waste of money. If there was a secret fat burning pill we'd all be thin.0 -
Thanks for the quick response. I have checked the settings and it has def got lose 1kg per week, i would supply a screen shot but for some reason i cant0

1kg = 2.2 lbs so she is suggesting you set if to 0.5 kg setting
you might have been looking at the TDEE calculations online which are different from the MFP one; basically TDEE averages out your needs with your expected exercise evenly throughout the week and MFP gives you more baseline numbers and then adds exercise in when you record it0 -
The number is there but you're only trying to lose 50 pounds and choosing that setting is dropping your calories too low. MFP does math, it expects you to supply the common sense. You are free to choose anything you want but it will be hard to stick to and may compromise your health.0

Ah yes good point I have changed it to 0.75kg and that goes to 1810 cals a day which is a bit more like it.
what do people think about the food i am eating?
thanks0 -
1kg is what 2.2 lbs give or take and as stated prior if you are over 75lbs overweight yes that is doable
but at 116kg (255lbs) to 90kg(198lbs) that is only 55lbs....setting it to .5kg would be more realistic in your case and would give you lots to eat.
You didn't gain this weight in 26weeks so you shouldn't try to lose so quickly...
If you are doing this for health reasons do it in a healthy way...slow and steady...it's not a sprint but more of a marathon.0 -
That menu is probably under 1500 cals anyway. It also looks pretty restrictive, is that something you really think you can stick to for the long haul?
two pounds a week IS doable, but it is not something you should count on every week. You are better off targeting one pound and take any addition as a bonus.
MY OPINION: 1 CLA tablet is a waste of money.0 -

She means they're garbage, don't take any, you're wasting your money if you even buy one.0 -
Ok thanks,
what are the best snacks to eat as snacks are always my problem0 -
food plan questions:
Breakfast
1) how much porridge? Made of which grain? Boiled in water, I presume? Because the nutritional value of oatmeal is vastly different from the nutritional value of, say, buckwheat.
2) how much semi-skimmed milk, and exactly what percentage do you mean with "semi-skimmed"?
Lunch
both chicken and tuna are excellent, as they're basically all protein. However, pasta is usually a lot of calories and if you have your veg as, say fries, you undo all the good you're doing with the chicken and tuna.
Overall though, it's definitely possible to lose weight with the plan you've set up. Though I'd suggest you skip the CLA pills and try to get your protein from actual food: lean meat, fish, chicken, beans, dairy, eggs... The reason for this is, that food will also give you a full stomach and you won't *feel* as hungry. Also, portion control is key - make sure to always weigh and log everything you eat as most people seriously underestimate their consumed calories.0 -

Everyone is different, so do what works for you. If the problem is that you're just really really hungry, then carrots and cucumber are great low-calorie-high-volume foods. If the problem is that you're craving sweets then don't fully shut something out: have a small portion, but make sure to measure and log it. You can compensate with your other meals.0
