Anybody have chest pains and breathing issues?

And was it cured with weight loss? For the past year I've had a tightening in my chest. Just a really crappy like some *kitten* squeezing my insides kinda feeling. And lately I've been really screwing up on my calorie counting and going on these just horrible 3 day junk food binges. I'm talking 6,000 calories each day and practically no exercise. Now I'm back on the wagon (and I'm gonna kick *kitten*!) and I notice on days I stick to my calories and get exercise, I don't feel so bad.

Anyone else have these issues?

Ya, well.... that doesn't sound like something that you should be ignoring.... you should go to the Dr. That said.... I had chest pains, that have gone away since I lost some weight, and eat better. I also had, off and on for like 30 years... a weird pain that was related to eating... I originally thought it came on when I ate alot of red meat.... and that's what I told the Dr, many years ago... the pain was on the left side, kinda just below my ribs. Granted, I make a horrible patient, I can't describe what's going on, for *kitten*.... and I'm not real familiar with my own anatomy... but the Dr basically told me all those years ago, there's nothing there.... so, your red meat = pain theory, isn't worth a pinch of coon *kitten*.... and sent me on my way. So, I continued to have those pains, off an on for years, and guess what.... lost some lbs, and eat a little more reasonably, and they're gone too.

So, ya.... dropping weight should help with those pains. That's if you don't have a heart attack first. So, you should probably be getting checked out by a Dr. My buddy... no relation to Lichent's buddy.... died in bed at 37 yrs old of a heart attack. Don't be thinking that it can't happen to you, just 'cause you're young.

Please get checked by a cardiologist!
Could be a blocked artery which must be treated quickly.

Could be nothing but most will agree that the symptoms you are describing are a major red flag and you should get your self off to get a ECG/EKG book in with a cardiologist and get a stress test done and what ever else medical professionals suggest.

Fingers crossed it is nothing but don't take the chance.

    Good luck

Sadly I've had heart pounding, I've had constricted breathing, and I've had a kind of chest-band-crushing thing going on.

I figure as long as I don't have shooting pains down my left arm, I'm probably alright.

And of course... i'm dieting. It was all rather worrying at first but I got myself checked out by the doctor - which I recommend for you. Get your blood pressure, cholesterol, heart checked out. At worst you can nip something nasty in the bud and at best it can put your mind at ease. :)

As to the bingeing - you need to get all introspective and navel-gazy and ask yourself why. There's always a reason. It could be physiological, it could be psychological, but identify it so that you can vanquish it.

Maybe you need to use TDEE calculations instead of MFP ones or something. Maybe you've been trying too hard and the wheels have come off.
  • That sounds a little strange to me. I have asthma and since losing almost 50 lbs it has helped my breathing a lot. Some times after a day of bad eating I feel a little sluggish in every aspect, but nothing to which you describe. Scary.

Get to a doctor, like tomorrow.

Get a physical, as part of the physical the doc can do a simple EKG and will refer you to a cardiologist if it shows anything abnormal.

Yes, you get more comfortable with cardio workouts - just make sure you start very slowly and build to your target HR (I took weeks to get there, weight flew off the entire time).

No, I don't binge eat junk food. After working my *kitten* off all week in the gym and tracking everything, no way I'll destroy my gains with stupid food. There's always an alternative choice. Lifestyle change!

You need to go to the doctor. It sounds like you may have pretty good blockages in your coronary arteries. In other words, you're on your way to a heart attack if you don't get yourself looked at. Diet and exercise might cure it, or you might need more aggressive treatment. Please get checked out.

Get it checked by your dr - the worse that will happen is they will tell you no everything is fine
You don't have to have the typical tv type chest pain for it to be serious - not everybody suddenly grabs their chest complaining about left arm pain.
Most people only get one heart so you probably want to take good care of it.

Could be heart issues, blocked arteries, angina, anxiety. Could also be stomach issues. I have GERD and an ulcer, which cause pain across my chest. But- you need to rule the urgent stuff out- like tomorrow. Good luck.

Further to all this... and I'm not gonna cite the source, because I have no idea how credible it is.... but this is, 'food for thought....'

Death may be the first and only sign of a heart attack.

This might be too much information, but years ago I was having horrible chest pain, had an EKG and X-rays and the doctor found I was just really, really constipated! I can't believe I'm even sharing this :blushing:

Definitely see a doctor! Better safe than sorry.

OMG - go see your Doctor...or perhaps the ER? Not normal, not healthy - more than likely something very serious. Unless you smoke, then thats normal.

Chest pain and shortness of breath aren't normal for a smoker either.
  • I'm at work and I'm getting more shortness of breath and a fast heartbeat. Just took my vitals (I'm a cna so I have this stuff nearby) and my Bp was 117/89 with a pulse of 114 and my o2 was 98. Bp was good but my pulse. Ah man wtf is going on? I get anxiety sometimes but...I have no reason to even have it right now. It's so out of nowhere. Man I wish I had medical insurance

Pulse is high, could be palpitations. A chest xray would rule out a Pulmonary embolism, not sure how much they cost. But chest pain, palpitations and shortness of breath are PE symptoms.

Does your company pay death benefits?

Even if you don't have insurance, hospitals will see you. And most of them have a charity care or sliding scale to help you with payments. Even most urgent care centers have options for payments.

As a CNA you already know how important it should be to see a doctor. And having your anxiety ratchet up even higher is only going to make the situation worse.

    Please, get checked out NOW.

At my heaviest I was always short of breath and I snored like a freight train.

Both problems have gone away with my weight loss.

I would really consider going to see a doctor though, might be something serious.

That's called anxiety, and there are meds for it. I used to feel like someone was sitting on my chest, all the time, until I learned some cognitive behavioral coping techniques and got on a light anxiety med. After that, I pretty much got rid of most of my compulsions to overeat, shop, etc.
