Help Please!

I got a new HRM today, and inputted my DOB and weight etc. Went for a 3 mile run (about 30 mins). Nike+ app says I burned 308 Kcal, HRM says 418 and MFP says 310. What should I go with? Or should I average out all of the numbers?

Just to clarify also, my HRM has a chest strap (not sure if this is relevant), it is not a branded one and my run did consist of a few slight inclines and declines.

Any help is really appreciated! :flowerforyou:

Thanks :D

Did your heart monitor ask for your weight and VO2 max? Or just age and height?

My rule of thumb... it is always better to go with the lower number to underestimate the burn than overestimate it.

just age, weight, gender and it adjusted to a max heart rate (if thats what you are asking, not sure!)
  • A heart rate monitor with a chest strap with be the most accurate measurment IMO

The HRM should be the accurate one since it measured your HR the whole time. Only problem some of the "off" models has is they don't ask for your gender and just use a generic calculation.

I have two HRMs and both give me completely different numbers (both have chest straps and both are branded - Polar and Garmin). I'd probably go with the lowest of the three numbers.
While my Garmin is usually pretty accurate (I think), I ran on the treadmill the other night for half an hour and it told me that I had only burned 53 calories. I'm pretty sure that's not right ;) LOL
Also, my Garmin always gives me lower numbers than my Polar, even though I use the same strap with a different transmitter for each. It's all just an estimate anyway, right?
