Polar FT4 - check transmitter?

I bought a Polar FT4 back in March and LOVE it. However in August, it started blinking out mid-workout and says, "check transmitter." I replaced the chest strap, as I noticed it had a puncture in it. I had my new puppy to blame:) It still malfunctioned midway through a workout. I just replaced the battery in the actual transmitter and now it won't pick up a signal to even start!!

What gives? Any suggestions? Thanks!

  • Try tightening it a bit and make sure you don't have a sports bra or other clothing in between the transmitter and your skin. If that doesn't help - contact the fine people @ Polar. I had this issue with my FT7- but a battery replacement did the trick.

I have an FT7 and had to replace the chest strap recently, but I took it to a Polar authorized location for help. Same messages you're getting. The guy reminded me to ensure that my skin is wet when I put it on, don't wash the new straps in the machine and make sure its tight enough to not move but not too tight. The battery in the watch is starting to go, so I have to get a new one going. I've also found I have to adjust it slightly to get a signal.

Check out their website to see if you live near a repair shop or can send it to one. I'm fortunate enough to have one local so it took all of 30 minutes to troubleshoot.

Oh, he also said that when you're not using it, unsnap one side of the transmitter from the strap so that its not constantly trying to connect. This is supposed to help with battery life and transmitter life.
