I'm a challenge...

Ok, so a little about me. Mid-30's, married to a Navy sailor, 2 kids, and come from an Italian family that loves pasta, bread, sauces, and cheese. I live in the midwest which also means I'm a lover of all things tater. I'm not big into posting in forums, I tend to read more but decided to try something new. Hopefully, I will keep up with it. I've slowly (and I mean slowly) been trying to make better choices in my life over the past couple years. I've stopped smoking and have pretty much stopped drinking pop (soda, coke, whatever you want to call it). I have it occasionally if we go out to eat because life is too short not to enjoy things once in awhile. I believe in moderation. I will never stop all my bad habits or stop eating my favorite foods. I believe if I can get to where I want, I should be able to eat anything I want.... in moderation. Exercise is hard for me. I've gone through a couple surgeries in the last year which made me stationary for a couple months each time. That hasn't helped with my weight or my laziness. I get winded extremely easily. I want to be honest here and I know I need to exercise but I just haven't started yet except for walking occasionally and hiking the woods a couple times a month. It's hard for me to find a routine that I will stick to. So, I'm here to learn... how and what to eat, how to exercise correctly, and how to keep up with all of it.

It sounds like you are doing okay on eating. Moderation works well more many people. Just control the total calories.

Don't discount walking as exercise. It is good exercise. If you enjoy walking then walk more often. Any exercise is better than sitting on the couch. Find something you like enough to do often. Walk, hike, dance, run, yoga, play tag with your kids, ride bikes, whatever you enjoy. And just remember that exercise burns calories, which means you get to eat more. That often gets me off the couch, because I do love to eat.

    Thank you for the welcome!

It's hard to cut out comfort food and junk but I've done a decent job minimizing it. My biggest problem is dinner. Sometimes, my husband and I do pretty well on what we eat and others... psh, forget about it! So, I'm going to do some digging here and see what recipes others have shared. I'm kind of a picky eater so that makes it harder. (don't like fish of any kind)

I do like to hike and we get out when we can but with winter coming, I'm going to have to find some good indoor activities to do. I have dvd's of dance aerobics, pilates, and yoga but none of those make me feel like they're doing anything towards weight loss. I used to do a step routine before I gained all my weight and that was ok but I haven't found a new one yet since all the other dvd's are collecting dust. Guess it's time to find some motivation again!
