I'm sick of eating meat help?

So I'm on a pretty strict budget. But I get so tired of eating chicken breast and hamburger and eggs.

I don't like fish in less it fried and steak is expensive. Really the only main large grocery store around here is walmart.

We don't have trader joe's Costco etc. and are local grocery stores carry pretty much what Walmart does.

So what are something I can eat? I love chili soup and i don't mind beans but not a huge fan.

Anything that easy to make or heat up will work.

Just so sick of chicken hamburger eggs etc.

I'm talking food sources not supplement sources.

I'm trying to gain mass and I'm a hard gainer.

Switched to pork for a bit...... I do bone in pork chops, boneless pork ribs, get a pork butt and put it in the crock pot and make some Shredded BBQ for sandwiches, can't go wrong with BLT's (Bacon is good all by itself)..... Oh and I might add Pork is inexpensive too.... Best of Luck

Canned meats, while not the best choices, are cheap. Tuna, salmon, clams, sardines, spam.

What about pork? It is really good grilled.

Make meat balls or buy some. Get a brown gravy mix packet. Cook the meatballs in the brown gravy for 10-15 mins and serve over pasta.

There are cheaper cuts of beef but you will need to cook them longer to tenderize (e.g. beef stew) but it is perfect for cooler weather.

Low fat or fat free cottage cheese is a great protein source and not too expensive. Ground turkey is great too.

I know what you mean, have had times of feeling the same, but find it impossible to go a day without eating some kind of meat (or eggs) for at least one meal. (It's not impossible, I just eat a lot more food than I need to to get as full, and it's annoying to be chewing all day and still not feel great.)

Sometimes it's almost enough to have beans/legumes (black/fava beans, lentils) with a few hits of cottage cheese with nuts throughout the day.

This is easy and great, have made it a bunch of times - can add greek yogurt instead of sour cream, have it with quinoa:

Tarka dal is nice too (i have that out, for some reason cannot make indian food at home)

For a lunch, I sometimes like a salad of green lentils with cherry tomatoes, quinoa, feta cheese, olive oil, garlic (could add other stuff, people do)

You could cut down on the amount of meat & hide some of its texture if you make stews.

I love chx thighs! Stewed them, cut fat, removed bones, shredded the meat and ready for yummy tacos!
  • I'm a pescetarian and don't miss meat at all! We eat a lot of : eggs, quinoa, beans, brown rice, fruits/veggies, canned tuna. Veggie lasagnas are easy to make in bulk (you can even sub zuchinni ribbons as pasta and save a ton of calories!), as well as soups. Black bean/rice burgers are cheap, fast, and easy - not to mention yummy! One of my favorite easy meals lately is this :
    Ingredients :

8 oz. soba noodles (Udon would work well, or even linguine in a pinch!)
    1 pound sugar snap peas
    nonstick cooking spray
    salt and pepper to taste
    2 tablespoons soy sauce
    2 tablespoons rice vinegar
    1-1/2 tablespoons sesame oil
    2 tablespoons honey
Preheat the oven to 375 F. Place sugar snap peas on a lined baking sheet and spray with cooking spray, then season with salt and pepper to taste. Roast in the oven for 15-20 minutes or until lightly browned and tender.

While the peas are roasting, get a pot of water boiling for the noodles. Cook according to package directions.

In a small bowl, whisk together the soy sauce, rice vinegar, sesame oil, and honey. Set aside.

To serve, toss all ingredients together and divide into two portions.

tuna has high levels of mercury which should be limited to 2 cans a week maximum.

I'm on a very small budget. Like I get $30 from the government for food... per month. Fortunately I had stocked up on chicken breasts before I lost my job 7 months ago (coupons and bogos)... and I am sooooooooooooooooooooooo sick of chicken. I'd sell my soul for some steak. I only have enough chicken wings left for 3 more meals... the rest is all breasts. Blech.
  • I shouldn't have included tuna in the "a lot" section. I was on a roll in my typing :-) I probably eat 2-4 cans per month. Only recently added fish back to the diet after being strictly vegetarian.

I eat turkey, chicken, steak, and fish.
At the local grocery, I got 3- 4oz steaks for 3 dollars. They cook up easily.
Otherwise, I make large batches of turkey chili, which black beans & corn.
But chicken is chicken and fish is fish (tilapia or salmon) unless it is tuna!
Sometimes I make up some cans and eat that for a while.

you say you're sick of chicken breast, but there are so many different things that you can do with it and all of them taste completely different.

maybe its time to google chicken recipes and find some other ways of cooking the stuff that you have.
