Losing 10kg in two months

Hi, I'm a 17 year old girl who has lost 24kg before but gained some back and would now like to lose 10kg in two months. Just a little background knowledge, I started losing weight in December 2011 where I was 83kg and my goal was 55kg. I managed to lose 24kg by May but due to a busy school schedule, I wasn't able to work out as often and stayed at 59kg till January of this year. I put on 2kg in January during the holidays and ever since then, I didn't really make an effort to exercise regularly and stopped watching what I ate.

I stayed at 61kg for a quite some time till recently I went to Australia for two and a half weeks and when I came home, I found out that I had put on another 2kg! I was very upset with myself and really miss my old body and weight. I have made it my goal to lose 10kg by the end of November where my grandmother would be having a really big birthday party and I wanna look amazing in a dress.

I've been very upset ever since I came back and don't feel like I can talk to anyone about this. I tried talking to my parents but they say that they can't see much of a difference and that it doesn't really matter. I talked to my friends but they didn't really understand saying that I should be happy that I already lost so much and shouldn't be that bothered by the little weight gain. :/

With it being my school holidays now, I've started running 6 times a week, about 4km each time (both walking and running) and swimming occasionally about a week ago but haven't seen much results. I know that it takes time but am feeling kinda discouraged by the lack of progress I'm making... I try to control what I eat, but its a little hard since I go out to eat most of the time with my friends and family... I eat little rice, about half a bowl (asain's staple food...) and more vegetables than anything else but I don't know...

Are there any tips that you guys can give me on how I'm able to achieve my goal in 2months? I heard that its harder to lose weight when you're not as big as before but I don't think its impossible. I really wanna go back to feeling good about myself and feeling proud that I managed to lose all that weight when I walk into the ballroom in my pretty dress. Thanks a lot! :D

  • Congrats on your already successful weight loss!
I definitely think it's possible for you to go back to where you were, but since you don't have as much to take off it'll be considerably harder. You should try some resistance training as well and not only cardio. You'll look even better in your dress(and in other clothes, and naked!!) if you have some muscle definition, plus you'll feel stronger and your metabolism will get a boost as well :)

22lbs in 8 or 9 weeks is a pretty aggressive goal. As you know, it gets much more difficult to lose weight once you are closer to your goal. My thoughts are to aim for a lb a week at the most, and as the above poster mentioned, maybe start a strength training routine. Figure out your BMR and TDEE and maintain a sustainable calorie deficit. You'll have better workouts and feel healthier if you properly fuel your body. You won't need to deprive yourself and you'll have an easier time once you get to maintenance if you take it slow and steady. Let me grab you a couple of links with a lot of good information to get you started.

BTW: I only now noticed your age; I do believe you have to be 18 and over to use this site. Have you tried sparkteen?
  • No I haven't! What is it about? Thanks for the advice by the way. :)

You would have to lose 2+ pounds per week which is a) not easy or likely and b) not necessary. Moderate your calorie intake to a reasonable (read: sustainable) deficit. Exercise. Be patient.

I think sparkteen is exactly like MFP, but for teens. Probably, well worth checking into. Good luck on your journey.:flowerforyou:

It's not impossible, but it's not very realistic either. If you want to lose the weight and keep it off long-term, why have a specific time point when you need to be done losing it? What are you going to do if you get to that time point and have not reached your goal? Give up and put the weight back on, or keep going? If you're going to keep going, then why put a time limit on it at all?
  • Of course I wouldn't stop even if I haven't reached my goal by the specific time, but my goal is to lose at least whatever I had gained by then. I like to set high goals so that I will work towards it, and even if I fall short, at least I achieved something. It would be nice if you could be less critical. :D

If you found my comment overly critical, let's hope that none of the meanies post in your thread!

Speaking of critical, you seem to be implying that you're superior to me because you set high goals for yourself and I don't. Which is also pretty critical.

Forget about these useless goals drop / gain 10kg.

Even if you make it you'll put it back on in a few months.

Why don't you learn how to count calories and eat properly (within calories) first.
  • I'm not saying that I'm superior to you or anything. I was just explaining why I set the goal of losing 10kg in two months even if its pretty unrealistic. :D I'm not trying to be critical and I apologise for saying that yours was. :)
  • Thank you! :D:D
