Cycling with Runtastic while wearing Fitbit

I attempted to search the forms before posting here, but didn't truly find what I was looking for, so here goes.

I've started cycling recently and recording the time and duration via Runtastic. It records and posts just fine to MFP. However, I am wearing my Fitbit device while riding the bike.

My question is will/can the Fitbit count the motions from me cycling as a step? And if it does, will it mess up my calorie count?

Granted, me being the absentminded person I am, I forgot to sync the device after work before I began riding cycling, so I am NOT sure how many of the steps were from me actually walking and how many were from (if any) from the cycling actions.

Once I head out to cycle tomorrow, I'll take a closer look and see what I discover.

In my experience, the Fitbit records some steps while cycling or spinning, but still understates calorie burn. My Polar RCX5 HRM generally has about twice the calorie burn as my Fitbit.
  • Thanks. I have a heartrate monitor hooked up to the runtastic app. But either way, I'm gonna eyeball it and check it today and see what happens.
