Good morning runners!

Today was my sprint workout. We ran a mile warm-up, did 30 minutes of sprinting drills, then finished with a half-mile cool down. It kicked my butt and felt great (afterwards)!

Hey there! Great running girlie! YEY YOU!!!

I dragged myself for a pathetic 1.5 miles last night. It was 95 + degrees and the humidity is REALLY kicking in!!! AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH! We had very little wind and from the North so it was sooooooooooooo hot and stuffy out. UGGG! But I got out, pushed myself harder than I normally do, and had something to log. YEY ME!

    ______________________________________________

I didn't see an answer on my running question from yesterday so I'm going to post it again.

Is it the heat and humidity kicking in so strong now that is causing me to run less but burn more per minute? I understand not being able to go as far, but what is causing the burning of more calories and going less far? Should I just push through this and run the same amount? Or listen to the weather and be okay not pushing a full many miles?

I also wondered if splitting my workout to do 2 AM miles, and 2 PM miles being better or give myself a break-ish? Distance or calories?

Any suggestions or words? I feel guilty for not going further, but uggg! When I do go further I'm burning 700 calories. Yey, but I don't care to eat that much either. HELP!

    Good morning!

God may have rested on the 7th day, but with P90X you have the option of resting or doing a one hour stretch dvd. I chose stretching. I usually only do my obligatory 5 min. of stretching after I run. One hour of stretching my whole body felt so good.

I know it is hard to find the time to run and keep up with everything else, but I highly recommend finding time for additional stretching. Since my heart problem last fall, my angel of a wife has allowed me to focus on me, so finding time has been easier for me.

Doing yoga and stretching has made a big improvement in how my legs feel both during and after running.

    Have a great day!!

    Good morning!

Woke up to a beautiful thunderstorm this morning. I wasn't sure if I was going to run this morning due to my legs being sore so I guess mother nature made that decision for me. lol

Princess, I always burn more calories when it's killer hot outside too. I guess are bodies are working harder at trying to keep us nice and cool on the inside. Also, I would listen to your body in the hot and humid weather. If it works for you to run twice a day go for it!
Have you considered waking up early when it's cooler to run? It's always much more tolerable for me to run in between 5:30am and 6:30am. It's also a great way to start the day!

Slender1, way to go on your sprint day. I would love to start adding those to my weekly runs but I think once I'm out there all I want to do it run. Great job!!

Ali, way to go on your 3 miles girl! Have fun at work.
  • Just waiting for clothes to dry so I can get my butt out to run! Thought I would say
    GOOD MORNING! While I waited.

Wow, not fully awake yet, but I will go warm up now.
    See you after the run.

Great job on your workouts! We are doing small portions of P90X in our turbo bootcamp. We do 45 min of turbo kickboxing and then 45 min of P90X. It's only portions of it, because of the limited time, but it's a great workout. we did the push up series last night! it felt great!

JD: Oh, wow, another P90Xer! I just love this program. I just finished, well an abbreviated version of P90X+ and am still plaing around with the program. I finished P90X in March. Have you had good results? I agree that stretching is so important. I was happy those 'rest day's' when I did the stretching, felt so good afterwards! The yoga is a deceptive one, harder than one would imagine and sooo long. But I do agree it has made me more flexible.

Princess: I agre with Mireille, you're body is working harder at regulating your temp. Be careful though when running in this kind of weather. need to drink lots of water. I try to run through a wooded area where it is cooler, but it's true, can't seem to run as long.

No running for me today, still babying my sore foot. Went for an 11 km hilly bike ride. Will try running on Friday

    Hi everybody:heart:

Beautiful day outside here! I'm going to the gym to do weights/core/elliptical again. My father-in-law is visiting this week and we are spending our time taking him places every day. We're going to have lunch at my daughter's house. Have a great day!:glasses:

    4 miles today
  • Good morning everyone!
Wow, some people run really far.

Did really good, went 4.5 miles today and only walked about half a mile of it.
That is a quarter mile to start walk and then about 3 short water sipping breaks and a few houses just before home. So I guess I should count it as a 4 mile run and take 10 minutes off the time?
I was tempted to turn and add a little more to the run, but didn't want to over do it yet. Feel good about this one though and no dogs chased me!:flowerforyou:

Great workouts and runs today everyone. I did my bootcamp class this morning. Tonight we are doing a 5k so I will get my running in tonight. I am a little concerned as I am not sure how the weather will be later. It is supposed to get up into the 90s but I think the humidity is supposed to get worse later on in the week.

    Good Morning!
Today I am going to do pilates at home. It is my son's birthday and while they are downstairs I'm going to sneak in a taped workout. Last night I ran with the group. They didn't tell us a distance but did drills where we sprinted and then recovered and then repeated. It was fun - today I really feel my behind

PS Thanks for the tips on Runners World website. It has so much info!

    Have a great day!

Hello everyone! Congrats on all the miles logged already! :drinker: Last night I only pulled out 1 mile since we had the kids with us, but I had the best time. My 4 year old son got out the last 1/2 mile and wanted to race me! We had a blast until we got to the house and the little snot kicked it in high gear and beat me on the last second sprint. Wow, I've never been good at sprinting, but to get beat by a 4 year old? :noway:

Anyway, today is an hour of strengthing and toning videos and then a cardio workout later tonight when hubby gets home. After dinner, we are going back out again today for a rematch! Only bad thing is that my 4 year old brought me his basketball shorts and jersey and wanted to wear it today so he could look like momma when we run! If he beat me in jean shorts and sandals yesterday, he'l probably leave me in the dust today!

Hi all! Great job on the runs today! I managed to push out 4.5 miles but it wasn't fun...the humidity is really high here as well and I was running on a treadmill in my basement. It's amazing but you can still feel the difference in the air even in doors in A/C; perhaps because I have asthma. With my asthma, I find myself having a harder time breathing and running in this type of weather regardless of where I am.

My pulmonary Dr. told me a long time ago that it's healthier to be wise...in other words run in the cooler weather and out of the sun you won't be putting as much stress on your heart or other internal organs (due to possible dehydration). She agreed that you will burn more calories in the high heat but you usually can't go as far as usual and you really shouldn't because you are putting an extra stress on your body by trying.

    Have a great day all!

My husband is convinced that jogging is going to break my body apart. He said it is going to mess my knees up, my back, and i'm going to get veins all over my legs. :noway: He told me to do the elliptical.

I told him to calm the hell down. I have always known that joggers are in the best shape. I'm not stopping anyways, i'm going to be one of you soon. I'm going to jog my little heart away!

Running actually helps my veins. I got a lot of them when I went under treatment and put on some weight, but since I have only been running again for about 3 weeks, they are starting to go away. I didn't think that would happen, but it is true. I am so happy about it to, I thought I was going to have to get them sucked out and pay for it myself because they weren't big enough to be considered needed.

    Lina,

My hubby says that too sometimes. I tell him that I'm smart enough to know to stop if my knees or other parts of my body start to hurt. Then I will take appropriate action. For me, especially since I've lost 20lbs, things don't hurt anymore (knock on wood).
Hell, I had veins on my legs before I started to run so that isn't the only way to get veins. lol
You keep running girl, you are doing so great and we will always be here to motivate you!
  • i went out for my run at 9pm, it was great. I'm in my 3rd week of running so am still crap. I'm running a 2 mil course, so monitoring my time and cals burned... I shaved 3 minutes of my time today

I'll stick to the same course this week then change to a 3 mil next week

    Way to go runners!

Today is my 54th birthday so I ran 54 laps at the gym which is 5.4 miles. I was feeling pretty lazy so I started out at a slow pace but then began to feel better and picked it up.. The .1 mi. track is boring but it beats fighting the heat.
