Need help with reducing Hip Inches !

Hey everyone,

I have been working out and eating healthier for the past 4 months. So far I have lost 22lbs and a decent amount of inches off chest (4) stomach (6) thigh (3) and elsewhere, but the one area I am trying to reduce is my hips. I started at 51" and I am now down to 49.8" but wondering if you have any tips on how to loose weight/inches off your hips! it keeps just floating around the 49 mark and I want it do go down 4-5 inches. Any advice would be awesome !!

Right now I eat 1500 calories a day, I do not eat back my workout calories, I am doing three 30 minute HIIT class (called Metabolic Effect) a week in a class, a Bowka class (like zumba) and a TRX class each week so five days in total. I also like to add in the cross trainer or treadmill for something extra if I have enough energy !

Any tips, advice, workouts etc on how to loose some inches off your hips would be amazing ! My wedding dress is 43-44 at the hip and I have a little under a year to get there so I would love some help :)

Unfortunately, there is nothing you can do to target one particular area for fat loss.

The good news is that it will come off your hips eventually if you keep working at it. It sounds like you are seeing some success, keep at it. Adding in some real strength training for your lower body can improve your shape as the weight comes off, though. (Squats, deadlifts, lunges, hip thrusts, etc.)

Why are you not eating back your exercise calories? If you are eating MFP's recommended number of calories, the system intends for you to eat your exercise calories back. If you have calculated your own calories according to your TDEE, then you don't need to.

You'll need to lose weight over-all, trying to lose weight in only 1 spot is not possible

I've had my best results with fat loss with a fairly small calorie deficit. If you're going with MFP's settings and NOT eating back exercise cals, then you are likely creating a HUGE calorie deficit.

Sounds like you're pretty good with your workouts, so don't sell yourself short by under-fueling your body and giving it reason to want to store fat rather than burn it.

Eat well, drink water, exercise, take rest days, get good sleep, have patience. Hang in there!
  • I have the same problem. I have a 30 inch waist and my hips are 45.5 They were 46.5 a month ago so I should be happy I am seeing some results. Keep it up. I have leg day once a week at the gym and arm day once a week. The rest are cardio days.
