I feel like i'm losing my mind, my facebook timeline seems to be full of people starting stupid fad diets at the moment, the egg diet, the cabbage soup diet, etc they surely can't be healthy can they? They're not sustainable and you just gain the weight back again as soon as you stop, it all just sounds like starvation to me, anyone else agree?

I spent over a decade doing 'stupid fad diets' and every one of them worked, they just weren't sustainable and yes, the weight came back, with more on top, every time I stopped.
I had to do it, I had to learn the hard way that there's only one way to do it.....eat less, move more. So yes, I agree they are unwise and definately not healthy (the diets, I mean) but I also completely understand the phsychology behind people doing them.
All we can do is hope they realise sooner or later that THIS is the only long term, healthy, sustainable way to do it. I feel I could almost be the Billy Graham of MFP, shouting out from the rooftops 'BELIEVE, people, BELIEVE!!' but people have to make their own journeys and it is not for us to judge them for it, I guess.0 -
Its not unhealthy to do a "fad" diet for a few days. Think about it like this, many of these people and maybe yourself, (many of us) have lived off candy sodas breads and processed crap with no essential nutrients of vitamins for most of our lives, its not going to kill us to eat cabbage for a week.
In fact these short fad diets are a perfect way to start eating healthier. If you can survive a few days on cabbage you know you can survive a lifetime without processed crap.
Think about other cultures, they go through long periods of fasting, back to bible days. No one dies of starvation. Its our lifestyle thats made us believe we need so much and in reality we aren't eating anything of any value in the first place. We just prolong our obesity into our death or diseases.0
