Today I am a runner

I started running again a few months ago after many years of not doing much of anything exercise-wise. Up until today, whenever I started a run, this is what was going on in my head:

45 seconds in: "Oh man, this sucks. Why am I doing this again?"
2 minutes in: "My legs feel like lead. I hate this."
3 minutes in: "Ermagerd...I'm gonna die!"
5 minutes in: "25 minutes to go. Don't know if I can do this..."

etc.

Well, today for some reason, I started my run on this lovely fall morning and I was so busy enjoying the scenery and the sunshine, I forgot I was running! Suddenly I looked at the time I had been running for 12 minutes and didn't even realize it! I felt like laughing. Went an extra 10 minutes to celebrate. Yay, I'm a runner.

    Love that!

And usually my first 10 minutes of every run I have those same thoughts going through my head - I just keep reminding myself that once I get past that it gets better.

Nice going! We runners know that special feeling. Run at the appropriate pace and you will love it more each day! I started running two years ago. Currently, I'm working on a goal of running 13 half marathons in 2013! Love to run!

I know EXACTLY what you're talking about. Isn't it the best?! I've been a "runner" for about a year or so, and to be honest, I still hate it some days. But then there are those days that everything falls into place and it feels perfect. Totally worth the effort. :)

  • Thanks for posting this. I'm so focused on a training plan recently that I've forgotten why I started.

yep, and even sooner you'll be making room in your drawers and closet for all your running gear, talking incessantly about running to anyone who will listen, scoping out your "next" race even though you haven't yet run the very next one scheduled...oh yeah, you're a runner!

    Welcome to the ranks!
