Feeling discouraged

I went to a gathering over the weekend with a bunch of people who I haven't seen since I started losing weight. I'm down about 15 pounds (around a third of the way to my goal, still working on it), and was feeling pretty good about myself. I got a new dress and was feeling pretty. Pictures started popping up this week, and I STILL look look like a ridiculous beached whale in all the photos. I'm sure no one else sees it that way, and it didn't bother me so much when I knew I was gaining, but this is thinner than I've been in ages. Now I can't believe I've actually been feeling skinny.

It really sucks feeling like the past six months of hard work have barely made a dent in the physical perception of myself. Time to kick up the energy again, I guess.

    Sod the piccies!

YOU ARE THINNER... you're just not then - yet :)

Keep the skinny minny mindset too - it is better than your current depressed and disappointed pov.

And finally....... people love beached wales. Just think about the news coverage... all those concerned, often crying people offering help, advice and hugs... oh! Maybe not! Just sod them all, too!

Keep going. I have lost 34lbs and have at least another 16 to go. So I know all about the mismatch between how your body feels and your eyes perceive it! I still see the bumpy bits. OH sees/feels the bits that have gone, the nice curvy bits :)

I don't know where you started at or what your goal is but from my personal experience it's how we look at ourselves. I went from 300 down to 256 in the last 8 months and in my eyes I still see the weight. I have lost a lot but still have a lot to loose so I don't notice it much, others have begun to notice though. So, although you may not see it, it is happening and others are likely beginning to notice as well. In due time you will see what you are aiming for!

Sometimes you have to stick those piccies up against an old pic to notice the difference. We're so used to ourselves that weight loss isn't very noticeable, even when it's a lot!

I'm down 23 lbs and no one has said anything to me. I still look fat in all my pictures.

I'm not doing this to get compliments and look good in photos. Those things will be an added bonus when they happen.

I'm losing weight and working my *kitten* off at the gym so I can Feel better. So I can be fit. So I can run a freaking mile without wanting to DIE!

Focus on smaller, more tangible goals. It will help. Check out my profile to see my fitness goals. They have helped me so much! Make your own! I have come further than i thought possible in 50 days!

Me too, and I do feel much better overall. And I'm reaching all my smaller fitness goals, and that's all been wonderful. I guess I was just really hoping for a few compliments and good photos, too. This has been such slough for the past six months, I guess without even actively thinking about it, I was expecting this week to be a reminder that it is all paying off. It hasn't been, but whatever, it still IS paying off. I just need to be the one reminding myself.

You are your harshest critic. I am the same way, when everyone is saying how good I look I am always thinking about things I want to improve. You are doing great, keep it up.

I'm down 37 lbs and only 5 lbs from goal and when I saw a picture of myself the other day I was so disappointed with the lumps and bumps I'm still seeing. The thing is when I look in the mirror I think I look great, so my conclusion is the camera on my iphone MUST NOT be working correctly...probably that new ios7 update!

An art teacher once told me that if I wanted to draw people or portraits, to use a live model or sculpture instead of a photograph, because people are three-dimensional and photographs, especially flash photos, are two-dimensional and tend to "flatten" the subject. (Might be why the old saying is, "cameras add ten pounds to a person.")

What's most important is how you feel about yourself. I haven't lost enough for others to notice, but I FEEL immensely different. And I know eventually others will see that, too.

You to need to stay focused. I used to go to counseling and she always told me that I have to learn to love myself now before I lose all the weight or I won't love myself even when I am skinny. She said people see something different on them then others do. So what your seeing isn't what everyone else is seeing. Your perception is altered so all the hard work you have been doing I bet people have noticed, you are just your hardest critic. Don't let it get in your way. Keep up you're energy and high spirit and the feeling of being skinny. Stay positive

My sister once expressed this feeling by saying that pictures have the ability to steal a piece of your soul. I have been there so many times and sometimes it is just a bad picture (they DO happen) and sometimes its all in your perspective. Save one of the pictures you hate now and make note to look at it in 3 months. See if your perspective changes, it's a really good way to start on the path to realizing that sometimes we are bullies to ourselves and just need to have some compassion and love ourselves a little  .

I'm down 39 pounds and no one has noticed, the important thing is that it is happening and it will get there in time.
  • Cameras are evil! I dread getting Facebook notifications that I have been tagged in pictures... Take some hot selfies to make yourself feel better

I've lost 92 lbs and people still don't notice or don't say anything if they do. My neighbor was shocked when she tried to give me some bacon wrapped fish and I told her I had lost 88 (at that point). I don't think she believed me. LOL There are always going to be people who aren't very perceptive about things like this. Even I didn't notice I have lost weight until I had lost about 35 lbs. Keep on doing what you're doing and remember why you are doing it. In the beginning I judged my success my other small things. Like being able to walk farther, ride my exercise bike a few more minutes each week, not getting winded so easily, not turning to food when I got upset over something....things like that. Good luck!
