running shoes

How often should a person that runs three times a week get new running shoes? If they only have one pair?
Is it once a year or more like every six months because it takes a while to break in new running shoes.
your input would be appreciated thanks

When they start to wear out. Seriously, there are so many variables, like how much you weigh, what type of surface you run on, how far you're running, etc that play into this as well as the type and durability of the shoe. I think runnersworld.com has recommendations but they're in miles rather than time. Might be worth checking out.

I replace mine every 500 miles, that is what was advised to me by the shop I bought them at, they are a specialist running shop.

Every training session, I write into a diary the session and details, time, distance etc etc etc and keep a running total of the mileage in the shoes.

I have four pairs and rotate three of them, the fourth pair is for racing only.

Do not wait until the sole wears out etc, to do so means the inside has already broken down.

When you start to feel achy after a run. I do keep my shoe mileage and know approximately when they need to be replaced but my body tells me as well. I feel it when the shoes start to go.

This. typical recommendations are to replace running shoes every 300-500 miles, depending on the terrain you run on (running on pavement will break them down sooner than running on trails) and how much you weigh (the more you weigh, the sooner the inside breaks down, so the sooner you'll need to replace them). do NOT wait until they start to "look" worn - or even until they start to hurt.

thanks for the advice, I run both on dirt trails and on the road, I weigh 147 lbs and I run 3 miles each day I run unless I't trying to work on my speed than I will sprint in short spurts, for a half hour.
but it sounds like I need a new pair because the are looking worn and the grip on the bottom are almost completely worn off.

Agree, with others. Whenever you start to feel achy. Mine go every 300-350 miles (Brooks Pure Cadence), but other shoes may make it 500.
