Is zig zagging my calories bad???

Is it ok to have your daily calories zig zag threw out the week. If your daily calories go from 1000 to 2800 a day if the average calories for the week is at my goal or under. ( my goal is 1800 a day averaged over the week)

Im no expert so just take this response as a personal thing but mines zig zag always. Not as much as yours! But I never hit 1600 on the head. It ranges from 1200 - 1600 every day. Its done me no harm so far, or so I believe.

But wait for the gurus to come in and give you their advice. :)

    Mine last week were - 1179, 1763, 629, 1624, 1342, 1184, 1105

That's a little more zig zaggy than I would like but I have lost this week. I can't manage it any other way. Those are net figures so some of the disparity is exercise.
  • If when you zig zag and you stil lose weight I can't see there being a problem , if it works for you just do it. Good Luck .

As long as you are getting enough calories over a weeks time, then you are fine. But as a young male, 1800 calories isn't that much. Do you exercise? If you want to post your height weight and workout routine we can validate your calories. I can tell you I am 5'11, 31, 186 lbs, desk job and exercise 6 hours a week and I eat 2400-2600 calories and average about 1 lb per week. As you get more lean, the more you need to eat as you don't have enough fat reserves.

I wish the more lean I get the more I can eat!

According to Scooby once Im maintaining at my lowest weight, I dont have very much to live on at all, especially on days off at work. It will e a challenge!

For example, I have 2 weeks off in October. By then I will have hit goal ( hopefully ) and if I have a sedentary day which I plan on doing a lot ( its a holiday after all ! ) I can only eat 1300! If I want to keep losing during those 2 weeks I've to eat at 1100. No thanks. haha

The smaller I get, the less I can eat. In my case anyway, as Im a very short female.
  • I am 5'10 223lbs i am around 25% bodyfat and I lift weights four days a week and do cardio 3times a week.

1800 calories is not enough for you... you dont have that much weight to lose and a goal of 2600 is more appropriate for that activity level pending you follow the standard deviation. I would at least try to get to around 2400 calories in your average and macros around 40% carbs 30% protein and fats. You really want to try and get close to 1g of pro and .35g of fats per lb of lbm to help sustain muscle.

What would be the expected weight loss? .2 lbs or something? Because I know a ton of very short females and they maintain at 1700 + calories but it could be an issue with activity level.
