Would you buy a used FitBit? Any other brand recs?

I know someone that is selling her FitBit One, simply because she doesn't like wearing a "bracelet". I was curious if a FitBit can be reset to start over? Would you buy used? (She isn't offering a big discount from getting a new one).

Or do you have another brand you like?

I like the idea of what the One tracks (incl sleep) and the community/teams/goals you can set/work with. It's on my Wish List.

FWIW I do have a HRM but looking to track my activity throughout the day including playing outdoors at the park, walking, cleaning/moving, Zumba classes, everything short of riding the stationary bike as I understand it won't track certain movements.

My current Fitbit is a hand-me-down. When you sign up for an account I assume that the information associated with the previous owner is wiped out. I have the clip-on variety, not the bracelet. I think they're great fun, although not essential.

Love my fitbit!!! I bought it in July and wear in all the time. It has made me make sure I get my steps in. Buying used is no problem. The device will sync with your account and your information. It easily syncs with all the apps I use.

It's a fun toy to see how much you move during the day. I have the Zip because I didn't want a rubber bracelet on my arm all the time. You can reset it so that shouldn't be an issue.

I've had mine for about a week or two, and quite frankly, think it's a waste of money.

Runkeeper App (FREE) does the same thing as far as giving me step count, distance, calories burned, etc. In fact, it's more accurate. i know this because I walked 4 miles as measured by the car odometer. Runkeeper was right on, while Fitbit was off a several tenths of a mile. My job requires sitting and talking to people. Fitbit logged several hundred "steps" while I sat for an hour. That leads me to believe it measure any movement with my arms. Super.

I track my food/caloric intake on MFP so that leaves sleep...which Fitbit does do, but again, i'm not sure how accurate it is and even if it says "you slept 6.5 hours and awoke 4 times. Duh...the clock tells me that too. Just not sure how helpful the info is.

Maybe I'm not using it to it's full advantage yet and there is much to discover; but, so far....meh.

p.s. Unless he/she is giving you at LEAST a 50% discount, and money is tight for you, go buy a new one for $100 bucks.

I have a Polar FT4 and love it! The chest strap is very comfortable and I find watching my calories tick away provides me with motivation to get that number moving. I looked at the fit bit flex but found some poor reviews about it's accuracy.
  • I really researched all the pedometers and chose the Fitbit one it clips to my bra or my waistband. I like it because it interacts with MFP and digifit. It pushes me to get more steps and stairs in everyday.

Would like some frieds to join on fitbit, none of my real friends have one.

if it's a bracelet, it's a fitbit flex. I have had mine for five days. I love how it looks, abd the vibrating alarm wakes me in a better mood than any alarm I've ever had.
