help

I started my lifestyle change about 2 1/2 weeks ago. Before i never are breakfast , would just drink coffee with lots of sugar and creamer and start eating around noon until 10 at night. Whatever i wanted to eat. And i drank sweet tea all day. I am on my feet 8 hours a day at work. .. cashier or salesperson type of job. This is what I changed. .. stopped eating bread, pasta, potatoes, and sugar. I have had bread maybe like 4 Times since I Started. Started eating breakfast around 8 or 9 which is either oatmeal or eggs with sausage or fruit. Started using splenda in my coffee, still use creamer. After coffee i drink water the rest of the day. Maybe 40-60oz of water a day(2-3 bottles of 20oz water). I eat grilled chicken, salads , green beans, broccoli, oranges and grapes mostly. I stay below or right at 1200 calories a day with eating and drinking like this. I have no idea how much carbs, fat grams, etc these foods are. SW was 216. After 2weeks I was 211. That was last Thursday. Yesterday (Monday) I Weighed 213. What is going on ? Why the 2 pound gain in 4 days? I thought i would lose faster than this. I know i should exercise but after working all day my feet and back hurt so bad I can barely walk. I feel so discouraged. I am not giving up though. Just wondering what i should do differently than what i just described.

you dont need to do anything differently, you just need to be more patient.

weight fluctuates, dont weigh yourself all the time!

Weigh yourself once a week at the same time wearing (or not wearing) the same clothes. Weight fluctuates hourly. I weighed 153.8 yesterday and 152.2 this morning. I did not burn through nearly enough calories to actually lose 1.6 pounds of fat in 24 hours.

Have you worked out on here the amount of calories you should have? MFP calculated mine as 1580, but when I began I also had a dietician appointment who told me to lower it to 1300. I have steadily lost between 1/2 - 2 lbs a week. Make sure you have the correct amount of calories, log in everything, and as mentioned previously be patient.
Try doing just little things for exercise if you haven't got the time. I have a really busy schedule and the only way I could do anything was to get up half an hour earlier, so when I started I would get up at 0430 and go for a 1 mile walk, I was so exhaused by 7pm I was asleep! This has gradually become a 2 mile run an hour later (as I can do it faster). Park further away and have a 5 minute walk, just little things add up. Good luck!

How did you work out your numbers? Are you weighing your food? tracking? how exactly do you know how much you are eating? If you were tracking then you would have some idea of the nutrients because they appear in the diary at the bottom. Your diary is private so can't really say much more. You didn't gain 2 lbs overnight but you might be eating more than you think.

You should definitely log *everything* you it, and weigh it properly. Also, 1200 calories is pretty low. Did MFP tell you to eat that?

Also, weight fluctuates. Don't weigh yourself too often, and be patient. It'll come if you work at it :)
  • PNOTE...I MISTAKINGLY PUT THE WRONG CALORIES I CONSUME ON THE FIRST POST. I CORRECTED IT NOW. I am on here with my phone and not a computer and kind of difficult with auto correct and small screen. Lol. So I add everything i put into my mouth onto a journal that keeps track of the calories. It does tell me the other info too but don't pay much attention to it because i am confused as to how fat grams and carbs figure in with calories. So i decided to count calories and that's what i look at. I will make an effort to at least walk 30 minutes a day no matter how my feet feel because i really want this. I even pay for a gym membership i don't use! I am just so miserable at my current weight and i want a change so bad. keep telling myself 2 pounds a week is 32 pounds In 4 months. .. but just want to be there NOW.

Fat, protein and carbs all have a specific number of calories per gram. Those add up to the total number of calories in the foo dyou eat.

Especially at your weight, the calorie count is most important to losing. The other stuff is more important for body-building (cutting and bulking).

Seriously, don't worry about this fluctuation. They happen. Too much sodium and I can gain 5 pounds overnight and lose it in three days. And you will probably not see a loss every week and you will sometimes see gains. It's normal.
  • Yes Mfp app told me 1200 calories. Then when I joined here to ask for insight with my plan, it said like 1330 calories.

Personally, I do better and am losing weight steadily at 1450 calories. I found that upping my calories and changing my lbs per week (I am currently at a .5lb/week loss) just worked better for me. If you have 66 lbs to lose (from your ticker) you may want to try it as well. Also, MFP works for those who truly stick to it. TRUST THE PROCESS!! Also - check your sodium. A 1 or 2 lb gain could be you had a high sodium intake.

You will get there - just not overnight. I can appreciate your comment about weighing less "now" but it is best to lose it gradually by eating healthier and less than to lose it all at once just to have it return.

Just my 2 cents. Good luck :flowerforyou:

Let me start by saying that old saying of : You didn't gain it overnight, you wont loose it overnight " .

Now lets talk about the important things as you begin your life change. Take a picture of yourself ( I didn't and wish I had ) . Take all your measurements, including thighs, calves, upper arm, neck, and the big 3, bust, weight and hips. Also calculate your BMI which you can find on most health sites This information will really help later on.

The main thing in loosing weight is putting less in then you burn but never go under 1200 calories without contact with your doctor.

Sorry if I sound hard, but I think it is important to set yourself up for success not failure. There are lots of people on MFP that will help you when you get down and support you when you need it and pat you on the back when you accomplish something new but you have to do the first thing which in my opinion is to put yourself first.

I have been on this journey for 1 yr today, some days are great, some not so much but I know that I have to keep going and fight with my body to get healthy. I wish you all the strength you will need to be happy with who you are. I would be glad to have you add me as a friend, if you would like but I think this journey is a two way street, so I will remove you if you do not log in for 3 days ( unless notified ahead of time ) or if you do not support others.

Good luck on your journey, try not to get down on yourself, all good things come with hard work.

I have another question. I noticed on the menus people were eating today that pasta, bread, and potatoes were mentioned quite a few times, and by people who lost a significant amount of weight. Should i still be eating some of these foods ? I guess what i am asking..... is 1200 calories of chicken, fruit, and vegetables the same as 1200 calories of bread, pasta, and potatos when it hits your body? I know you can eat more of chicken, fruits, etc than you can of breads and stuff. But is a calorie the same on your body no matter where it comes from ?

Unless you have a medical condition, those foods are perfectly fine in moderation, just like everything else.

You're eating oatmeal. I'm not sure what your logic was in thinking oatmeal was OK, but the rest weren't. They're all carbs. And they're all fine to eat.

Potatoes in particular are very good for you, full of lots of nutrients. Just don't top them with lots of fatty stuff you don't have the calories for.
  • Oatmeal is bad? Its 100-200 calories for breakfast plus my coffee. Not really sure what to eat for breakfast because i never ate breakfast in the past and Am having to force myself to eat it. Trying to train myself to eat by the clock so i develop healthier eating habits and plan my meals instead of just grabbing Whats close to hand when i get hungry.

Sound like you calorie intake is too low,and if that's the case, your body is going to hold onto whatever fat it has stored to use to fuel your body. You didn't indicate if you work out, and if so, what that includes. Please keep in mind that you didn't gain it overnight, and it will not be lost overnight. Delay does not mean denial. Take another look at your calorie intake and your workout routine.

Did you actually read what I wrote?
  • Oh...I see what you meant. Oatmeal is similar to bread, pasta, and potatoes. I didn't realize that. :blushing:

    Yes! lol

They're all carbs. When people go super low carb, they cut ALL of those things. It isn't necessary for most of us.
  • I am definitely gonna look at eating more calories and adding some walking into my plan. I am seeing a doctor too, and go back in 2 weeks. Trying so hard to lose 8-10 pounds during the month between doctor visits.

You really only have so much control over that. You can do everything absolutely perfectly and see the scale go up that week. Or it could drop 5 pounds.

Making losing a certain amount of weight lost by a certain date is a recipe for failure. Make your goals things you can control: What and how much you will eat, how often you're going to exercise and how many calories you want to burn -- stuff like that.
