What started your motivation?

I've been in a bad place for awhile now. While I have the occasional good week, nothing really seems to motivate me to keep going.

I got healthy, fit and to a happy place with my weight when I was 16. Since then I've yo-yo'd (I'm 29 now)...always with a life change. Moving away from home getting out of the routine, then college, etc. I just want to live a healthy life-style once and for all. I do want it but being in a bad place just can't shake the negative thoughts that I'll just go back again :/

Any advice? What's worked for you? What kept you motivated and on track? Would love some support and I'l be here for you to :)

I've been doing this for about 35 days and I have lost 10lbs so far. (2lbs a week) :) What keeps me going is with MFP I feel like I can still eat certain foods that before I would think I couldn't...such as pasta..I always thought it was a huge no no when losing weight and I would feel deprived always trying to cut carbs..but not with this I CAN eat carbs if I just measure what I have...when I eat things that taste great and my clothes start to feel looser on me this is what is keeping me going.
Just try to be positive, were all gonna have days/weeks we feel like crap and unmotivated. Last week I had the worst week ever at work it was crazy...and I didn't feel like working out at ALL...but I pushed myself, got on my eliptical and I swear those days I think I did the most intense work outs I have done this entire journey so far! lol!
This might sound ridiculous (I don't care if it does) but sometimes when I am working out, sweating like crazy, breathing so hard I can't even speak I picture myself running down a road and I can see my skinny, AMAZING looking self far down this road jumping and yelling "you can do this! KEEP GOING!" and I just keep focusing on how amazing I look in this picture of myself. It can make me all teary eyed while working out haha :)

I'm going on week three, myself.

Two things kicked my butt into action. My oral diabetes medication stopped controlling my blood sugar and a heart attack scare. Luckily, the latter was apparently really bad acid reflux and I've since changed my diet enough that the meds are keeping me in control again.

Sadly, I'm the kind of person who needs negative reinforcement, so I probably won't be much help with positive thinking.

What motivates me: Friends motivate me. I motivate me. I see change happening and I want to see more change. I've been here for 265 days (I think or is it 275...somewhere around there) and this place, MFP, is a tool that has kept me focused and on track to lose over 50 pounds. I have about 15 to go for my target weight but 19-1/2 to go to be in at a healthy BMI. So, when I get closer I'll look more closely at all the numbers and see where I land. For now .. its the possibility of getting off 2 prescription medications ... and being the woman God created me to be .. healthy.

First and foremost you have to want to get healthy for you and no other person. Dig deep within ... you can do it!

PS You are young .. it will be easier than me, who is in her late 50s; but it will still be a journey that will take focus and dedication.

    What has worked for me:

Adding in more good habits - such as losing the local takeaway's number, trying different types of exercise and ways of eating, logging stuff on MPF before eating it.

Wanting to continue to fit my clothes - most of which are vintage or second hand so are not easily replaced

Photographs - especially the unflattering ones!

    Summer and swimsuits.

Spending time with older generations - nothing drives home the 'use it or lose it' message quite as well as seeing how well family members aged.

The difference (quality of life, energy, health, general attitude & happiness) between those who watched what they ate and had active lives vs those who didn't is amazing.

What started my motivation once again is making myself stand on the scales and waking up to reality. I know self worth is not defined by a dress size or scale number but I was scared that I would not live the true healthy life I deserve and my body deserves and my family deserves. Being overweight comes with health and emotional issues. For me, I don't want to die young, of a heart attack, or any other weight related illness.
Also I am seeing this as a day to day journey, trying not to focus on the final goal or the final weight, just getting through day to day. So far so good!
