So i was reading, and im not sure if its true, but i read that as a general rule you should consume 1 gram of protein per pound of your weight.
and i was wondering if that was true or not. how much protein do you try to get in a day? ect.

Teenage boys need up to 52 grams a day.
Teenage girls need 46 grams a day.
Adult men need about 56 grams a day.
Adult women need about 46 grams a day.0 -
I gave in and eating more protein because everyone I see that does looks friggin' good. I'm currently eating 1.3 per lb. Trying it out to see if it makes a difference. Experimenting.0

I eat about 100+ grams a day and it helps my insatiable appetite. I actually stay satisfied between meals now that I eat a lot of protein. That's a good enough reason for me.0

Eating between 1g/lb of lean body mass and 1g/lb of body weight daily can help you to retain muscle mass in a deficit situation. Whenever we lose weight we lose both fat and lean mass. Ideally we retain as much lean mass as possible since it's the muscle that burns the calories.
Strength training can also help, but the protein helps even in the absence of strength training.
I am 160 lbs with LBM of about 120 lbs... so I aim for a minimum of 120g protein daily to a maximum of 160g. It seems like a lot at first, but protein helps with satiety and burn since it has a higher "thermic effect of food" burn than carbs do. Plus of course the benefit of retention of muscle while dieting.
The cookie cutter response up there ^^ is based on nothing factual. Every human being is a different size and shape. To say every man needs the same amount and every child needs the same amount is just silly.0 -
Okay so if im about 118, and lift weights, and aim for about 100g per day, that would be a good goal for myself?0

I wonder where you got these numbers from, but they must be for pure survival.
1g/lb of lean body mass is usually a good goal. The more the better!0 -

I weigh 118, too and have been doing fine eating 90-120g. I recently upped by 30g or trying. I want to gain muscle and I lift moderately heavy to heavy 3-4 x's a week.0 -
It all depends on your level of physical activity and your weight/height. I am 5'3, weigh 120 lbs and workout daily, doing intense weight-lifting workouts 4 times per week, and running 40 miles/week. I try to eat approximately 100 gr of protein per day and try to limit my carb intake to below 50% of my total calories.0
