Knee Taping

Just got my knee taped this afternoon for the first time by my physio to see if it'll help this really sporadic and random pain I've been getting. My knee cap sits too laterally so this was just to correct the tracking. I was just wondering if anyone else has done this before and did it help them a lot? Did anyone find it hard to exercise eg. run etc, with it? Weird question; should the sides of the knee be a bit tender from the tape pulling at the skin? Because it's a bit sore and I know it sounds strange but I can't tell if it's the same pain I was experiencing before or not :l Sigh.

If your knee cap sits too laterally (which I doubt) it's likely to be meant to be there. If your patella is actually causing you problems you need to see an Orthopaedic specialist0

OP, I have the same problem actually.
My PT has taped my knees during some of my sessions to help with the tracking.
My knee caps don't sit center due to the tendon running off towards the outsides of my knees & muscle imbalance.
Working with the PT, we've been strengthening my knees and the knee caps are tracking better now.
Some of the exercises he has me do in session are a little more difficult with the tape if he's taped me tightly that day.
I don't know what a physio is compared to a orthopedic specialist & a PT so I can't offer any solutions really - but I'd be hesitant to anyway.
Ask the physio what is causing your knee caps to sit wrong and for other solutions besides taping.0 -
Thanks for your contribution! (: Yeah I have muscle imbalance too in terms of their strength/tightness and timing of contractions It's good to know that your knees tracked better after working on strengthening them; I would really not like to continue wearing this tape for the rest of my life =p I have a tendinopathy in my patella tendon as well so it complicates things. I hope I can do my exercises tomorrow bc this feels tight and I feel like it's yanking at my skin when I bend it0
