Hi people!
I just started working out recently and this site is so useful!
Now, I'm not overweight, I weight around 52 kg and I'm 1,65 m tall
But I'd really want to do something about my hips area, I have this very noticable "dip", its kinda like on this photo:

and this one

Some people have told me that its cuz im too skinny and some have told me that I have to lose some weight to get rid of that "hip dip"..
Does anyone have this same problem, and is it possible to build some muscle in the area, so it'd kinda fill out the space and give a more smooth shape?
I know some people have done plastic surgery and had a fat transfer to fill it out, but I don't feel that's necessary, just wanna know if any exercises could give a more smoother shape
Thanks!!

You cant change genetics but building a strong muscle base always helps.0

I don't have one, but on me that's where my 'ballet muscles' seem to be. That would be the gluteus medius, as far as I know.
Folks usually build that along with the other glutes. But some exercises target it more specifically. Clamshells are great (add weight with a cable, band or thigh weights). Ballet is great but you do have to use some turnout to get the effect on that muscle.
A strange but effective one that is based on PT is as follows:
Get a step of 3-4 inches. Stand with one leg on the step. Find a good way to keep your balance. Now lift the other leg at the hip and control it as it drops the leg lower than the other leg. Lift again. You can do that with leg weights if all feels well.
I am not sure how the muscle builds on folks with your frame, so no guarantees. But that's how you can isolate the gluteus medius, in any case0 -

Heyyyyy! I've got that "dip" too! I took a test recently and it told me my body shape was a "spoon". Basically it's where you've got hips larger than your bust except there's something like a "shelf" where our body types are more likely to store fat first. Basically that's why the dip is there. All the extra fat is stored on the shelf just above the dip.
Seems to me that the only way to get ride of the dip is to get rid of the excess fat sitting on that shelf. As others have said already though, having a good muscle base always helps.0 -
I have that dip, and I haven't been able to get rid of it. You're probably very high waisted. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news. =( I hate it too. It looks very love handle-ish and makes pants slide down to sit in the dip.
I'm trying weight lifting...maybe it'll help. Probably not.0 -

I hope the muscle building works out for you! (and me!)0 -
I just pulled my pants down to take a look and noticed that I have it too. Like me, you probably have large or high hip bones. Nothing you can really do about it.
When I say "large bones", that's not a euphemism for "fat". I mean that my hip bones are probably taller and take up more height than average.0 -
I have the dip, but didn;t have it when I weighed less!,, so yes get rid of the excess fat:)0
