Is Coffee bad for my diet? I always like to have it at mornings before college.
Do you think It will help me loose weight? Will it effect my body with an empty stomach?

Calories are the only thing that will positively/negatively affect your weight.
I drink coffee almost every morning, with a splash of unsweetened almond milk and a little fat free flavored creamer. As long as you aren't getting something sugary every morning you should be fine. Just make sure you're tracking it in your diary and not going over on calories.
If you have a sensitive stomach, coffee alone may irritate it, but I personally haven't had any issues.0 -
There was a discussion about this very same subject a few days ago...depends. I posted some info at http://www.myfitnesspal.com/topics/show/1106184-current-ex-coffee-drinkers-support if you want to look. Excluding medical conditions, caffeine in moderation doesn't seem to pose any problem. Again, moderation + no medical conditions = no problem. Excessive + medical condition = problem.:drinker:0

I have about three cups a day, both regular and decaf, and haven't had a problem. There are actually some studies that show that regular coffee consumption provides some health benefits so that's a bonus.0

Coffee is both good and bad. If you are drinking it black, you probably won't notice a difference in your calorie counts. If you add anything to it, definitely log it. I usually put in milk or half and half.

If it's not too hard on your belly I think it's ok. I have heard it can help suppress your appetite too! That's all I know! :bigsmile:0

it'll only effect other people if I don't get my coffee.0

What research has shown is that coffee, in moderation, is good for you for a wide variety of reasons. What do they consider moderation? Most experts say 1-3 cups/day is fine & healthy, but if you drink 4 or more then the problems it can create negate most health benefits.
I used to drink a gallon of tea/day, but I did sweeten it, so it added up. Tea is also good for you, but most studies say 4 cups is all you need for health benefits. Eventually I was able to up my water intake & now I just drink 4 1/2 cups/day.0 -

Caffeine raises the metabolic rate and helps to mobilize fatty acids from the fat tissues. It can also enhance physical performance.
Drinking coffee is associated with a drastically reduced risk of type II diabetes. People who drink several cups per day are the least likely to become diabetis.
Coffee is associated with a much lower risk of dementia and the neurodegenerative disorders Alzheimer's and Parkinson's.
Coffee appears to be protective against certain liver disorders, lowering the risk of liver cancer by 40% and cirrhosis by as much as 80%.
Coffee contains a decent amount of several vitamins and minerals. It is also the biggest source of antioxidants in the modern diet.
Remember: Even though coffee in moderate amounts is good for you, drinking way too much of it can still be harmful.0 -
This is very helpful - thanks for posting!!0 -
One O!
Yes, you can lose weight while drinking coffee.
I have 2 cups a day with my flavored creamer and sugar. I log it, and enjoy (a lot of the coffee enjoyment comes from the fact that I will not murder anyone today!)0 -
Is Coffee bad for my diet? No. Black coffee has about 5 calories a cup. It will not adversely affect your weight loss goals.
Do you think It will help me loose weight? No. Black coffee has about 5 calories a cup. It will not positively affect your weight loss goals.
Will it effect my body with an empty stomach? I don't have your stomach. Do you get a belly ache after drinking it on an empty stomach? If not, then you should be fine. If you start to get an upset stomach after drinking it on an empty stomach, add some food first, then drink.0 -
not bad at all depending on how you use it.
coffee before a workout can help you burn more fat by giving you more energy (caffiene) to workout harder and longer.0 -
"Coffee" and "bad" don't belong in the same sentence.0

it'll only effect other people if I don't get my coffee.

I am a student majoring in Food Nutrition Health Science. We recently had a guest speaker come in who was a master's student basing her research on coffee. Coffee itself is actually very good for you. I was surprised to learn that coffee has something around 6 times more anti-oxidants than green tea! The only downside to coffee is the amount of caffeine that it offers as well. However, if you just drink decaf then it should be ok. The study was based on coffee drinkers who drink 3-4 cups of coffee a day, there were no health differences between blond/dark roast coffee. Hope this helps
I just wanted to add that yes it also depends on what you put in your coffee lol. The study above was based on drinking the coffee with nothing added to it.0 -
If the image below is what you call coffee, it may not be great for the diet.
My morning coffee has just two tablespoons of a flavored creamer. 75 calories is worth it for me.0 -
I love coffee..........I have learned today (today is my first day on myfitnesspal) that I am pretty much using all of my sugar 'allowance' on coffee.
Oh if only I liked sugarless black coffee like all the people on tv.....sigh
Oh and I take a stand agains all artificial sweeteners....dilemma0 -
Coffee is great, it is all the crap you put into it that kills you. I now use 1 splenda and a splash of 1% and it gets me through the morning.0

My coffee consumption saves lives.0

Coffee is the nectar of the gods and should be treated as such. It also allows me to qualify as human.0

Coffee in itself is not bad for your diet exactly, adding cream or sugar can negatively impact your diet though (of course).
But keep in mind that staying hydrated will help you lose weight and coffee (or more specifically, caffeine) is a diuretic (i.e. dehydrates you), so if you drink coffee, be sure to drink extra water!0 -
Hi I work in the health care field in the UK, Mental Health, the details below are part of my training as it affects patients on mental health medication.. I hope it helps... I', always looking to add new friends so feel free to add me in... Paul
coffee doesn't tend to be a problem while dieting but you need to take into consideration: It is a central nervous system stimulant and a diuretic (substance that helps rid your body of fluids). Caffeine is absorbed and passes quickly into the brain. It does not collect in the bloodstream or get stored in the body. It leaves the body in the urine many hours after it has been consumed.
There is no nutritional need for caffeine. It can be avoided in the diet.
Caffeine stimulates, or excites, the brain and nervous system. It will not reduce the effects of alcohol, although many people still believe a cup of coffee will help a person "sober-up."
Caffeine may be used for the short-term relief of fatigue or drowsiness.
Caffeine can lead to:
•A fast heart rate
•Anxiety
•Depression
•Difficulty sleeping
•Nausea
•Restlessness
•Tremors
•Urinating more often
•Vomiting
Stopping caffeine abruptly may cause withdrawal symptoms, such as:
•Drowsiness
•Headaches
•Irritability
•Nausea
•Vomiting
Reduce caffeine gradually to prevent any symptoms of withdrawal.
The effect of caffeine on health has been widely studied.
•Large amounts of caffeine may decrease bone mass density, most likely by interfering with the body's ability to absorb calcium. This may lead to osteoporosis.
•Caffeine may cause or worsen painful, lumpy breasts (fibrocystic disease).0
