Hi Everyone,
My name is Kristin and I'm 25 years old. In the past few years I have noticed a change in my metabolism. I'm looking to lose some weight and develop a fitness routine that works for me. I would love to hear some beginning tips about diet and exercise that worked for all of you! Feel free to add me as a friend. Thanks!

Good luck! I am pretty new here myself, but so far so good. The support on here is definitely helping.0

Thanks! Good luck to you0

Well, you're a cyclist, so you got that going for you. Pedal hard! It's good for you!
I've had some disagreement, but if you log all your calories eaten and your exercise, don't feel the need to "eat back" all your calories that you earn from exercise. In my case, I'm not sure if I really burn as many calories as the database says I do. I eat what I feel I need to, but I don't try to replace all the calories expended in exercise.0 -
Thanks! That's really helpful. I've seen alot of back and forth over that subject!0

Then you will know that some people disagree with me. Look at it this way: If you set up to lose a pound a week, eating about 500 fewer calories (depending on your current weight, metabolism, etc.) will put you at a weight loss rate of 2 lb. per week, more or less. If I take a long ride, I probably leave a bigger gap than that. I've lost 21 lb. in a month and a half.
There's a threshold where you're losing too fast; I don't think I'm pushing that, but someone did accuse me of being an "exercise bulimic." So maybe you should take my advice with a grain of salt.0 -
Hi Kristen. Welcome to MFP! If you follow the food and activity logging, you will find that in a very short time you will have control over your calories and your weight! Cycling it a great cardio work out too, I do it regularly!
All the best!
Oh, and don't stress out with trying to get it all perfect right off the bat, you get used to the logging and adjusting food/calories as you go. The biggest thing is to get active and control your foods. I did it slowly and made more of a lifestyle adjustment but every one is different in their goals and how to get there0 -
Yep, agree with that. I try to come as close as I can to the logging, but if I'm not exact, that's okay. One thing that I find helpful is that so many chain restaurants have documented nutrition information. So last night's dinner at a local Italian place looks like this in my diary:
Veal Marasala from Carrabba's
Angel Hair Pasta (generic)
Tiramisu from Olive Garden
The hardest part for me in a situation like that is figuring out which veal marsala to choose. When in doubt, I usually take one a little above the middle of the range.0 -
