Losing weight and gaining muscle

Hey ya'll! I was wondering, is there some kind of an exercise \ routine \ whatever that could kill two birds with one stone? Anything that could help burn fat and gain muscle, even slightly, at the same time? I'd like to be ready for power workouts once I'm done losing weight, and have some kind of a base to work off of..
I do have a gym accessible to me commend anything you can think of I guess?
And if perhaps you think it isn't worth it, or whatever else, what would you recommend to do? what kind of exercise would help me get fit and ready to lift heavy?
Thanks in advance!

  • Why not just start lifting heavy (which means whatever is heavy for you) with 5x5 stronglifts ????

    ^^^this....

also, you can't really be catabolic and anabolic at the same time. You can lose weight and maintain LBM and gain strength, but you're not going to gain any substantial muscle if you're in an energy deficit...to be anabolic you have to have an energy surplus.

You can make very slow, but good progress eating to maintenance...cutting BF and very slowly building some muslce...but like i said, it's very slow...thus the reason people do bulking and cutting when they're trying to increase muscle mass.

I find strength training is best. The 5x5 is a good start. There is a group that is very helpful also

To really gain any muscle, you have to eat at a surplus. Really the only way you gain muscle at a deficit is if your meal timing is perfect, so that when your body looks to repair the muscle, the proper nutrients and energy are there and available. Good luck...

Don't split hairs on this one, you don't want to complicate your life. Just eat your deficit and lift weight, and you may gain some muscle. Keep it simple.

If you're concerned with your muscle mass, the most important thing to keep in mind when you're dieting is that if you don't lift weight as well, you will loose some of what you already have. Your body will actually break down some of the muscle tissue over time. Don't worry about this either, just lift heavy, and you will be doing the best you can to at least maintain what you have, and maybe gain a *little* more while you're dieting.

A good rule of thumb is to keep the weight loss to around 1lb per week (500 cal deficit max per day) to also help avoid loosing muscle mass from your diet. also keep in mind that your strength might be somewhat limited while you're dieting, and it would be a good idea to take in some carbs prior to the workout, to make sure that you ahve the energy to get through it.
