Ever feel stuck?

I hit a mini goal this August and then, with only 10 to go, lost my drive. What do you do when you're feeling unmotivated? I need a boost, maybe a new workout or something? Suggestions are welcome and desired!

Well, as I like to say: motivation isn't a dog--it won't come when called (so I guess it's more like my cat! haha).

Whenever things start to get out of control for me, I recommit. I get back to basics, back to planning meals and workouts. If I'm going to stick to my regimen better if I drop a workout, then so be it--I'll eventually get back into the swing of things.

Starting back at the beginning can make it feel new again. And of course, faking motivation and commitment sometimes encourages me to be more motivated and committed.

Whatever you do--don't stop. It is much harder to get going again once you've stopped tracking and exercising!

It always helped me to find a new tool or gimmick to use. If I had the money I'd have a fitbit in a heartbeat. New exercise clothes are fun and are motivating...

Yup. I feel stuck right now. I'm trying to find my motivation again :) Something I did (which helped) was that I went through my closet and tried on everything......EVERYTHING. I pulled out my biggest 'fat lady' shirt and put it on and thought "hey...this is loose"....that makes me feel good! I'll admit the workouts are hard right now so I'm trying hard to make sure I stay within my daily calorie goals. Even with little exercise, I'm still losing weight. (probably helps that I still have oodles of weight to lose but hey...still moving in the right direction).

Now that it's fall I'm also going to change up my exercise routine so that it feels less routine. Start doing some strength training and breaking it up with cardio spots. I've had success when I tried that before but I've been relying almost completely on cardio to help create that calorie deficit every day. If I don't do an actual workout in a day, I at least try to get out for a walk. Anything to help get the heart pumping. :) When I get tired of that....I'll be trying the butt bible (on you tube) and mabye hip hop abs or something else like that. Make it interesting and make it harder for me and my body to become complacent in my exercise. I've been getting results and now I want more.

As for being hungry after exercise....of course you're going to be hungry. Plan for it! Have a nice snack like a fruit and a shot of milk after your work out. You're body is trying to freak out saying holy crap we just burned a bunch of reserves.....RESTOCK RIGHT FREAKING NOW!!!! A natural response. It's hard but you have to train your body to realize that it is still getting energy (food) at regular intervals an can afford to burn off some fat.

Hope you keep going. Realize (like I have) that no one will do it for you...but if you're lucky they'll come with you for a run :)

I agree new fitness clothes or even shoes can be motivating!
  • yes! i have felt stuck in the past. one way that always gets me back on track is to stand in the mirror in my underwear or a bikini and look at myself. I am not happy with my body at the minute so it motivates me to change it!

but yes going back to basics is a great idea, maybe research some different healthy recipes, find a new exercise you want to do? swimming, dancing, ice skating etc even try something youve not considered before. Change the numbers around on mfp go for a slower weight loss progression maybe to 0.25-0.5lb a week. a smaller deficit will prehaps feel like youre not "dieting" as such.

    but good luck!
