I'm a huge diet coke addict. Today I've really done it. I've gone 5 days without it and totally went overboard. I've had 144 ounces in 8 hours and the second i think i can finally relax in back in the bathroom. My chest is hurting bad to not to mention I'll be up all night. It's ruining my life. I know i need to stop but is really hard since my mother has let me drink it since i was 2 years old. This is definitely a rant sorry! I just feel like such a failure

Don't beat yourself up! Tomorrow is a new day. I love regular coke...none of that diet stuff. I didn't start drinking it until 9 years ago. I just do everything I can to stay away from it. I don't buy it, I don't keep it in the house, but I also allow myself to indulge once in a while. When I do indulge I only purchase a small fountain drink and that's it. I know that the sweeteners in crystal light aren't supposed to be good for you, but I found that sweetening my water with it helps curb the coke cravings.0

Of course you are not a failure you are, as you put it, an addict. Trying to make new healthier choices and making them stick are hard! You should wean yourself off of it and you may have better results. But remember today! Your chest HURTS; you feel HORRIBLE; it is affecting your SLEEP! You will get it, but it will take time
Good luck in your fitness goals!!0 -
Definitely don't beat yourself up! Maybe five days is too long for you to cut back gradually. Have you tried a substitute for the craving-whether it's something else carbonated (water) or sweet (fruit)? Hope you feel better soon and tomorrow is a new day.0

I indulge in flavored sparkling spring water to substitute for soda. Many brands and flavors to choose from. Good luck!0

I can relate. I have been a Diet Coke addict with a hundred-ounce-a-day habit during stressful times when I needed more hours than the day has. I've gone cold turkey a number of times -- not really meant to be forever, just to hit the reset button for a while -- and it is really, really hard, especially the first week or so because of the caffeine headaches and the sweet cravings. I drink weak iced tea, and that tastes good and does help with the caffeine withdrawal. For the sweet cravings, apple and/or cranberry juice mixed with Perrier isn't bad.
But I've never found a real replacement for Diet Coke, just alternatives that help me reach for it less frequently. What I do now is, I don't keep any in the house. If I want one, I have to walk or run down to the corner convenience store to buy one. That got me moving and helped me avoid a lot of the junk foods I used to eat too... all the salty, crunchy, starchy things just don't appeal to me without a Diet Coke to go with them. And vice versa -- if I don't eat the things that "go with" Diet Coke, I don't really care for the drink. One or two 16-20 ounce bottles is more than enough that way, and that much seems manageable to my system.
What's helped me may or may not help you; I know the stuff is pretty addictive. Just thought I'd share the thoughts. Good luck.0 -
I went four days without Pepsi max this week and it made me realise how addicted I am. I am planning to switch to diet caffeine free coke because I think the caffeine has a lot to do with it. I am also going to try to avoid getting thirsty by drinking a **** ton of water. Feel free to add me and we can try to quit together.0
