Addiction to food

I think I'm addicted to food. I get the concepts, but it feels impossible to accomplish.
I feel like I need pop, sugar, breads, sometimes even French fries.
This is feeling hopeless. I'm so discouraged today.

A lot of us are addicted to food ... that's why we're here in the first place. My advice to you is... don't diet !! Instead, make a lifestyle change. Don't deprive yourself of everything you love, you won't be able to keep that up forever, and to lose and maintain after, you'll need to keep that up. Love french fries? have some! just watch your portion control !! I just had french fries for supper & i'm still under calories. If you can, drink diet pops! Allow yourself minimal sugar. EAT BREAD!! I eat whole wheat bread and bagels everyday. Don't crash diet & don't deprive yourself, it will never last!!! Make a lifestyle change. Eat in MODERATION! that is key!! this is something you can keep up forever and will be successful.
i wish you luck and feel free to msg me anytime.0 -
The first couple weeks are the worst. If you can hold out for just a couple weeks, you'll find that you don't crave that stuff as much. Stay disciplined and have faith. It will be okay!0

it because you are addicted to sugar just like a junkie addicted to drugs. Sad fact is, sugar effects the brain just like any drug will do. It causes pleasure so you have to have it.0

I wholeheartedly agree with this. You don't need to deprive yourself of the things you enjoy - deprivation can ultimately lead to bingeing. Enjoying these things as treats while eating healthily is generally the best way to go. Eventually you may wean yourself off them, too. I used to be an absolute fiend for things like chocolate, donuts, fried food, etc. But once I ate less of them and more healthy stuff, I started to crave them less, and now I don't even eat chocolate or donuts (still have the occasional fried thing though).
A lot of it is about finding a balance, and savouring the treats when you have them.0 -
One thing I did at the beginning was allow myself a "cheat day". Now, I don't "cheat" very often because as mentioned, the less you eat of unhealthy things, the less you want them. What I would do was save one day a week where I would eat that one thing I was craving like crazy but I had to earn it. It made it taste oh that much better and made the discipline worth it in the end. Also, like someone said, it' also works to build it into your calorie budget. If I know I will be having something not so calorie friendly on a given day, I eat lower calorie things to keep from going way over.
You can definitely do this!!!0 -
So many of us have felt what you feel and can relate more than you know! You’re in a good place for emotional and practical support and you strive to win this battle. It’s ONE day at a time. Phil 4:13 carries me so many days. Hang in there and even when you don’t do it perfectly…don’t give up on yourself! Feel free to befriend me on here or message me any time! Good luck, girl!!!0

I am the same way girl....but they are right, don't deprive yourself...you can make all your favorite things and try new things you might not even know you'll enjoy...this website has really helped me a lot and the recipes ppl put up. Sometimes we have to moderate it, but hey, it's healthier for you. Good luck!0

I am so with you guys. I am addicted to food badly. My sister says that holidays, weekends, and bad days don't count when dieting.0

I"m sure many of us are addicted to food - myself one of them!
I feel that the longer I go eating healthy, the less obsessive I am regarding food. Especially since I don't tell myself that anything really is off limit. I ask myself how much do I want it and am I willing to 1. give up my calories for it and/or 2. if I'm willing to exercise for those calories. It really works well for me! The things that I really want, I am allowing!
It will work for you, try not to get so discouraged you give up. We all will have days that we are more down about this than others - let tomorrow be a better day - go through the forum here and read up on some of the AMAZING success stories!! You will be one of them someday too0 -
I agree with what everyone here said. I don't drink coffee so I used to be hooked on soda (or pop if you're from Canada). I used to drink pop all the time. When I finally decided to make a lifestyle change, pop was the first thing I cut. The first two weeks were AWFUL! I was depressed, sad, cranky, angry, tired, no energy, etc. After those two weeks were over it was like I had a veil lifted. I no longer was desperate to have pop. Sugar is so addicting! The first week really is the hardest. I know you can do this - know how? I haven't had a sip of pop is almost two years! You CAN do this! Stay positive!0
