I'm very motivated to loose weight, however when I get home from a 9.5 hour day at work the last thing i want to do is workout. I do not wake up early enough for morning workouts yet too tired to do this at night. any suggestions out there to get me moving?

I work 12 hr days 3 days a week and cannot bring myself to workout those days, but what I try to do is take the stairs everytime instead of the elevator0

Start off with a commitment to three short, but intense workouts a week, such as 25-30 minute workouts (10-15 minute workouts* + 10-15 minutes for driving to the gym or showering) for 6 weeks. And try to get in some 15-20 minute walks at least 2-3 days a week on your non-workout days.
And promise yourself that you'll eat as responsibly as you can during that six weeks (little to no cheats). Six weeks is not that long. And if push comes to shove, just cut out these four foods for six weeks: pizza, pasta, sweets/chips, and french fries. Those are calorie-dense foods that trigger/reinforce cravings. From your profile, it sounds like you do a good job of eating well. But try to make some minor adjustments to help complement this fitness goal.
Before you start, take some pictures and measurements. At the end of six weeks, take measurements and pictures again.
When you see the difference in six weeks, then hopefully, the self-motivation will kick in. And you'll have the motivation to increase the activity level and see what you can do in the next six week block.
Just think of things in short time frames, and you'll see how it adds up. And if you need some motivation along the way, just remind yourself of how good that feeling is after a workout. And remind yourself that all you need is to get going for just 5-7 minutes, before the bloods starts pumping that good feeling throughout your body. There's a forum full of Success Stories that you can draw on for inspiration or motivation as well. And pretty soon, maybe you'll be posting in that forum with your progress pictures.
Here's your program for the 10 minute workouts:

Maybe you'll find some other short workouts via Googling.
Good luck! It's never too late to start improving your fitness, but the longer you wait, the more you're gonna kick yourself for not starting sooner.
You will get out of it, what you put into it. Good luck!0 -
"stop being a lazy fat *kitten* slob and go do it."
that's what I tell myself - my helpful words of encouragement to my inner fat kid.
if I wind up at home and am trying to talk myself out of it. I rarely talk myself out- going to the gym late at night is what I do... so it's not usually difficult- but occasionally- I just emotionally berate myself and tell myself I'm better than everyone else who choses to sit at home and that's why I go.
usually enough to get me out the door.
I work 4 jobs right now. seriously- I still find time to kill it. it's hard sometimes- but once you get there- you'll be so glad you went.0 -
LOL... thanks, i dont need to be a fat slob! Thank you for encouraging words, any motivation helps right now as im attempting to change my system and fit fitness into my routine.
Thanks again!0 -
WOW! You are incredible at giving advise, I will defiantly cut out those trigger foods (even though I LOVE french fries) and commit the next 6 weeks to changing my lifestyle. thank you for taking the time to review my post and comment in such depth, I really appreciate it! I may need your words of encouragement in the future, THANKS AGAIN!0

for the record- I wasn't specifically calling you a fat slob. so dont' take it that way. I just respond well to negative reinforcment to myself.
Tell me I suck and I'll try harder.
Tell me I'm good- and what's the point of trying. that's about how I fall in that category.
So on days when I want to sit at home- true negative whipping on my behalf- usually helps. You have to find what works for you.
Just like there are 'trigger foods' and you have to learn to adjust and come up with a healthy relationship with food and balance- you have to find a healthy relationship and balance with working out.
I'm amazing when I leave the gym- but if I sit at home and make excuses? then I'm a fat lazy slob like everyone else who whines about being fat and lazy. it works FOR ME.
Also- find people to communicate with- I find it very frustrating I love talking about working out- my BF doesn't. he is starting to get bcak to it- but I could tell you he wouldn't be someone I would chose to rely on for motivation EVER. he does his best to help me but what is helpful to me is not the level of performance I want and need. I perform like an athlete- I don't need generic- you are fine you dont' need to be better pep talks- I need aggressive get better- be better TRAINING motivation.
he doesn't provide that for me. My other friends do. so I rarely talk about workouts with him. it is what it is. find someone who can help with form- share in personal records- someone who can tell you you're being lazy when you're being lazy or when you are over doing it when you are over doing it. Find those people to help you. :d some of them are right here on MFP. some of them are in your gym- or your neighborhood.
Good luck my friend!0 -
If you exercise at home just look at it as part of your job.. when you get home don't go to the fridge, don't turn on the tv.. go right to your room, change into workout clothes and go to it with no sitting down or breaks.. this is where you start to say "Na not today".. If you go to a gym.. go right after work without going home.. once your there and changed no going back.0

I'm in no way offended, I appreciate that type of response, bottom line is I am generally lazy and WANT to change! Your words truly are motivation. Really, THANK YOU!0

Thanks, I'm extremely focused at work, looking at the workout as a part of that should really help! Thank you!0
