Machine because that's based on your heart rate and MFP just guesses based on the exercise machine.
And him guesses how many calories you are burning based on your heart rate. Because when you are exercising your heart rate goes up. So based on how high it goes it can tell you about how many calories you have burned. This is just the basic try googling it and you will get millions or sources explaining it.0 -
I have a Polar FT80 HRM which has a built in trainer. I have it set to maximize my fitness level. It tells me how many calories & how much time to spend in each heart rate category. It is up to me what exercises I choose to meet those goals. It is set with my stats & it adjusts to my improving fitness level. It also has a strength training mode which I use when I lift weights. When in that mode it tells me when to go on to the next set, when my heart rate has dropped enough. Strength training contributes to the overall exercise calories. It includes a link to upload the information to the Polar personal trainer web site.
Previously I had a Polar FT4 HRM which is simple to use & shows the user the fat burning heart rate category. It had my stats too.
Think mini computer when you have a HRM.0 -
In the instruction manual for the exercise bike we have:Note: This is a rough guide used for comparison of different exercise sessions, which cannot be used for medical purposes.
The bike is less than half of every other estimate that I have seen and it has a built in HRM. Be careful.0 -

I just bought a cheap one from walmart that I will be returning.. It sucks. I might buy that one you're talking about. does it test your HR the entire time?0 -

It doesn't matter. None of them will likely be right. Pick one, track it for a while, and then make any necessary adjustments (ie, eat more/less of the reported burn).0
