Celiac Disease or Gluten Intolerance?

One year ago, I found out I have Celiac Disease. It was sort of amazing all the symptoms I was having that were unexplainable until this diagnosis. My weight was up and down, even though I hadn't changed my eating habits, I was always sick and tired, I was breaking out in strange rashes on my face and I even developed Iritis! It was amazing how after a month or two of no gluten, everything changed. I was feeling a million times better in my every day life and all my weird issues were gone. On top of that, I found myself eating better and actually exercising. I am five feet tall and weighed 140lbs one year ago. Today, I am 125lbs! =] I lost 15lbs in a year, and am looking to continue this path.

I was hoping to make some gluten free friends on here! When did you find out? Do you ever still crave gluten? Has it helped you in your fitness/weight loss journey? What do you miss most? Let's discuss! =]

  • I have Celiac too! I found out about 9 years ago, at first I was really upset... you tell a teenager that they can't have taco bell or pizza anymore! But now I have found so many safe alternatives and I've been gf for so long I don't even miss most stuff... though a good gluten free doughnut is still hard to find!
  • Gluten free since Nov. 2010. My biggest symptom was a rash too. I had itchy hives for years until the diagnosis. I craved gluten for a while. Mostly pizza. But when I would slip and eat a slice it never tasted as good as I remembered and then I had to deal with the aftermath. Totally not worth it.

I was just diagnosed with an auto-immune disease and found out gluten intolerance and celiac are both correlated with it. I have been told for several years I needed to eat GF, but I tried and failed every time. After I just found out I am supposed to be eating GF with my auto-immune, I have been eating GF completely. It has only been 2 weeks for me and I am starting to notice a difference. I am not nearly as bloated, gassy or constipated. I don't feel tired all the time and my headaches are gone. Before it was tough because my husband didn't support me. Now that he knows it is correlated with my disease, he is very supportive. He even went to the store and brought home a lot of GF goodies for me.

One thing I miss so far..... EVERYTHING PUMPKIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This is a bad time of year to start listening to my Dr. and my body. As far as weight goes.. I am slimmer (less bloated) but it is too soon to tell if it will have any impact on my life.

Feel free to add me :)

I have celiac....and I used to be a BIG lover of all things gluten. I found out about 2.5 years ago (while pregnant with my first child. There are a tonne of GF alternatives, but a lot of them are higher in calories....like 2 - 3 times higher. I have an endless list of things I miss, beer is near the top, I used to love a good sleeman's honey brown....

I didn't really loose very much switching to a GF diet, I really just swapped in the alternatives (big no-no:noway: ) as I wasn't loosing any weight. I'm trying to be more cognizant of exactly how many calories of GF alternatives I.m eating, as they add up so fast. Feel free to add me, I could use a little Celiac support :flowerforyou:

I miss bread:sad: its not the same!

I found out I had Celiac less than a week ago. I'm struggling a bit right now, but I can't wait until that time when the solutions that I have found (and have yet to find) are just part of my routine. Although I am happy that the timing is so great right now. With all the paleo and clean eating being the big trend right now, there seem to be so many more alternatives and options for people who are trying to stay away from gluten. Even more than I remember there being 2 years ago. So it's actually quite an exciting time with all the creativity and experimenting that's going on in gluten free food right now. It definitely makes the change more fun than a chore. Like I said, I'm struggling, and I have felt pretty darn crappy recently (I had no idea there were withdrawals possible!), but I'm on my way! I have to say that I may have bought a bag of Doritos when I found out they were gluten free. And I've been making grilled cheese tortillas today to satisfy my cravings. It's strange. I haven't had a grilled cheese in over a year, but when I found out I had to eliminate gluten, it was all I wanted! Feel free to add me. And are you part of the gluten free group yet? I'm on there too. It's a fun group!

I dipped mine in chocolate and some of the other ones in powdered sugar (not clean, I know, but it's yummy). If you don't have a doughnut pan, bake in a 350 degree F oven for 20 minutes. They're way better than the store bought ones I tried. Gross!

I'm not Celiac or Gluten intolerant

I do have a diary intolerant.

Either way I eat Paleo and it's been the best thing for me. Should have done it sooner.
