I'm 23 and I quit smoking 6 months ago after 5 years. I said to my sister 'I'll quit tomorrow', whilst smoking in the garden one day. She asked why I wasn't doing it today. I put the cigarette I'd just rolled out there and then, never believing I'd actually stop there. Apart from the one I smoked whilst drunk - disgusting, haven't since - I haven't thought about them since the first week. :) I exercise like a beast, my lung capacity has improved massively and my resting heart rate has dropped from 82bpm to 51bpm. The other day I noticed whilst on the X trainer, that my BPM whilst working out was the same as it was whilst sitting down this time a year ago!

For me it wasn't actually nicotine I was truly addicted to, it was probably the psychological stress release and having something to do. I realised I was swapping it for alcohol in the first week (my job was super stressful) so stopped drinking for a while as well.
When I was stressed I just went and sat down and put my head in my hands for 2 minutes and gave myself a little pep talk.
I now realise smoking was causing most of my stress! I'm so much more relaxed now. I've just managed to convince myself that they're disgusting and my body's natural reaction to the smell of smoke now is 'ugh!'.
Also, if you're losing weight, smoking is more likely to give you excess skin that's slow to fit your new body due to the lack of oxygen and elasticity! I feel pleased I quit looking at women in their 40s chuffing away who look closer to 60, hoping that quitting not long after starting wont have affected me too much!

Do it for yourself and your little boy! Good luck! :)
