Hi All, I joined here after realizing that 2 1/2 months of exercising has not lost me any weight.
I am a 48 year old stay at home mom. 2 teens and a 3 y.o. This summer we got a very active young dog. I started taking her on bike rides on our county road to burn off some of her energy and hopefully get a bit more fit. At first, I could only go about 1 mile, in the easiest gear. I wasn't even fit enough to have the strength to get out of breath ! By the time the kids started school in late August, I was going 3 miles at a pretty decent rate for a gravel road. Fit enough to work up a sweat and puff a bit anyway.
I started out at 185 and am now 180 lbs. My goal is 155lbs. Improvements I've noticed is that I am retaining a bit less water, but still have dents where my socks go. Now that the days are shorter, I am walking on a treadmill in the mornings. I do a low impact aerobic routine like 'Walking Away the Pounds' minus the side steps : ) to keep it interesting and get more exercise.
There is an article here somewhere about kick starting low metabolism. That is something I am sure I am as I have always been a very easy keeper. Any more ideas on getting the metabolism going are welcome. I am hoping this daily journaling will help too.
In the past I lost the "baby weight" albeit 6 years later, by following WeighDown workshop. I havn't really gone totally that route this time although I am paying attention to my hunger signals and feel healthier emotionally, spiritually and mentally so food is usually less of a crutch.
So, thanks for being here and I hope I can use this process to grow, shrink and maybe encourage a few others !!!

My Mother-in-Love turned me onto a book that has helped her with this very issue... I am still reading it and learning myself but thought you might want to know and look into it and see if it might help you. I hope it helps me like it helped my MIL :flowerforyou:
The book is called: MASTER YOUR METABOLISM written by: Jillian Michaels and here's the cut and paste short story about it......:
"Does it feel as if you're fighting your body to lose even one pound - or just to maintain your current weight? Respected health and wellness expert and bestselling author Jillian Michaels has been there, too. So she consulted top experts in the field of metabolism and discovered that she'd inadvertently been abusing her endocrine system for years. After "fixing" her own metabolism, she decided to share what she learned by devising this simple, 3-phase plan that engages all the weight-loss hormones (including the friendly HGH, testosterone, DHEA; and the not-so-friendly: insulin, cortisol, and excess estrogen). In Master Your Metabolism, discover how to: * REMOVE "anti-nutrients" from your diet * RESTORE foods that speak directly to fat-burning genes * REBALANCE energy and your hormones for effortless weight loss Michaels offers a wealth of information throughout, including: shopping lists and online shopping resources, hormone-trigger food charts, how to eat "power nutrient" foods on a budget, smart strategies for eating out, quick and easy recipes, as well as mini-programs for addressing PMS, andropause, metabolic syndrome, PCOS, and menopause."
Anyhow I am looking forward to learning about how this all works.. and seeing how it will work for me
Good luck!0 -

I think we must be soul sisters. I have had this problem for years. The doctors have doctored my thyroid, my adrenal ..etc..etc..and I am still battling it. They really have come to a place they can't explain either. The Jillian Michaels books sounds very interesting.0

sometimes the working out can be a tricky thing!! have you ever taken your measurements to really see what results you have had?? i tend to have a problem with just looking at the scale and ignoring the fact that my waist got smaller and my clothes fit better!! if you need some support though add me as a friend and good luck to you!!0

Thanks for the tips and encouragement !! Its true that I've lost inches and toned up a bunch. My middle is still bellied up though. All these pounds only fit in so many inches !! Perhaps I'll look for that book, there's not much reading time in my life right now. I'm thinking on cutting my calories down by 100 - 200. Its getting close to menopause time, I'm thinking and I know those hormone changes can send all sorts of strange signals to ours bodies. Its interesting though that in less developed countries women have little to no changes to accompany menopause, besides the obvious, that is. I'd like to learn about that !!!
Blessings to all of you and hope for our victory !!0 -
Hi, thanks for the water reminder. How can i watch my sodium levels ? Would that mean just intake ? I don't add salt when cooking and eat mostly homemade.0
