Hi all!
I have a question, it may be silly but I've confused myself...
Do you weigh your pasta dry or cooked? As it doesn't give me the option of the weight of 'cooked pasta'
Or is it no different?

Just in case you weren't aware of this feature, when you go to the message boards section, there is a button called search and you can type in a keyword/phrase (ex: dry, pasta, weigh) and you can see the threads that have already been created on the topic. Good luck! :flowerforyou:

The nutrition label on the package will usually tell you if the info is for precooked or cooked weight.0

Hi sorry, ive ha an account for a couple of years but only just started using the site!!
I will use that tool in futer And check out the links you posted adini.

& Emily, I would but we store ours in a plastic container and the packaging was long gone!
I'll add on a few grams for the time being just to be certain..

just make you life easier measure it out cooked about 1/3c for a serving0

What I thought was 185calories of (cooked) pasta is actually 455!!!
What a school girl error!! ... Thought it was too goo to be true haha!
I will weigh everything 'uncooked' from
Now on & make sure that I select the uncooked weights in my diary..
So glad I learnt this lesson sooner rather than later

I believe 2 oz of dry, uncooked pasta is equal to about 1 cup cooked pasta. I know that isn't a specific weight, but it's usually what I go by when logging pasta. I weigh most of my food, but this is one of those things that unless I am cooking a single serving for myself and am able to weigh it before hand, it just doesn't happen. And I have a family, so single serving pasta rarely happens Hope that helps!0

I cook for 3 people each night so I normally just divide total weight by 3 (which I was getting wrong lol)
Though I think my knowledge of 'portion' sizes is rather distorted coming from a family of BIG EATERS!
But I'm going to work on that ... In fact I'll start researching now'0 -
The rough difference between dry and cooked pasta, if cooked al dente, is 3x the weight. This means if you weigh cooked pasta and it weighs 6 ounces, you can justify the dry weight as 2 ounces. Because not all people cook their pasta precisely al dente, I recommend assuming that 6 ounces cooked is 2.5 ounces dry. Although this will up the number of calories by a quarter, it is better to go over slightly.
