I had them for lunch today (5 piece is 480 calories without sauce). I didn't need the sauce and just peeled off the chicken from the bones and threw it into a bowl with some salad. Not bad.

You may want to reconsider eating mcnuggets. They are truly the most disgusting things you could eat.Recently, Mississippi researchers found out why: two nuggets they examined consisted of 50 per cent or less chicken muscle tissue, the breast or thigh meat that comes to mind when a customer thinks of "chicken."
The nuggets came from two national fast food chains. The three researchers selected one nugget from each box, preserved, dissected and stained the nuggets, then looked at them under a microscope.
The first nugget was about half muscle, with the rest a mix of fat, blood vessels and nerves. Close inspection revealed cells that line the skin and internal organs of the bird, the authors write in the American Journal of Medicine.
The second nugget was only 40 per cent muscle, and the remainder was fat, cartilage and pieces of bone.
"We all know white chicken meat to be one of the best sources of lean protein available and encourage our patients to eat it," says Dr Richard deShazo of the University of Mississippi Medical Center.
"What has happened is that some companies have chosen to use an artificial mixture of chicken parts rather than low-fat chicken white meat, batter it up and fry it and still call it chicken," he adds.
"It is really a chicken by-product high in calories, salt, sugar and fat that is a very unhealthy choice. Even worse, it tastes great and kids love it and it is marketed to them."

other parts of the chicken have to be used in my opinion....I'd rather eat the leftovers put into an edible form than have animal meat being wasted. Plus, they're still damn delicious.0 -
cranshinibon,
I hear what you are saying.
But in my humble opinion - there are far better, more nutritious things, we could be putting into our bodies.
I respect your decision to continue eating them.
kind regards,
Ben0 -

Your humble opinion is absolutely correct lol chicken nuggets are in no way, shape, or form my primary source of protein, fat, carb, or calorie intake and is in no way healthy for me to consume outside it being burned as fuel. I actually watched a thing of jamie oliver trying to do a study on kids and mcdonald's nuggets - I found it hilarious because of the end result, but it was actually really interesting. check it out by youtubing something like jamie oliver chicken nugget fail or something0 -

I don't get this. Do you feel like anything that isn't the white meat of the chicken should just be tossed out? Seems wasteful to me.0 -
Eh. I don't eat them for their nutritional value, and wasn't under any impression that I was. I eat them because they taste good.0
-
I was curious about these- but I am weird about bone-in wings, I prefer boneless. I might just stick to the nuggets!0

I don't think anyone in the thread said chicken nuggets were "nutritious" it was a treat that they make room for because they like them ...geez ....0 -

You obviously have never had the chicken livers from Lee's...next best thing closest to McDonald's nuggets.0 -

The only reason I ever have nuggets is to have some of that hot mustard...it's crack!0 -

Oh my god, i posted this before coffee and didn't even notice my own dirty joke!!0 -
AMEN!! Lol Im with ya...hot mustard yummEh. I don't eat them for their nutritional value, and wasn't under any impression that I was. I eat them because they taste good.0

I didn't notice in the research posted there where they mentioned McDonalds specifically. I remember reading this article. And it wasn't a representative sampling either...
The whole squeamishness about "other" parts is hilarious to me. That is how you know a society has not been hungry or poor for a long time. Many cultures would be astounded at what we waste because we are "too good" to eat it. While I am not a huge fan of haggis, there is something to be admired about not wasting edible bits.0 -

Never had the Mighty Wings but I do love the commercial. I actually burn a calorie or two from laughing at it.0

Don't get me wrong, I love me some McDonalds....which is part of the reason I now need to lose weight. However, every time I see this pink slime picture, it makes me shudder. There's also a link in this article to the You Tube video referenced above (I think it's that one).
